The San 'Shyuum - AKA: Prophets
The Prophets exert complete control over the Covenant's religious and political affairs. The Prophets hold a vital position in the Covenant because they were responsible for studying the holy Forerunner artifacts and using them to develop new technologies, and also because they manage political affairs and maintain order in the Covenant. They held many seats on the Covenant High Council, formerly sharing this responsibility with the Elites, and later the Brutes.

Early History
Little is known about the Early history of the Prophets. It is known they fought a war with the Elites, which cuominated in a cease-fire and the formation of the Covenant. Their social and political history remains shrouded in mystery.
Human-Covenant War
Prophets served as the absolute rulers of the Covenant. They directed all policy and movement across the empire. They were never seen, but intelligence gathered about them from third party sources was always very clear about their role. They were not seen until 2552. During the Great Schism, which was brought about by their decision to remove the Elites as their personal guard, they became more reclusive in the Covenant.
Post Covenant Status
Their current status is unknown. The prophets have not been seen since the end of the Human-Covenant war. It is surmised they have gone into hiding. According to testimony gathered from the current Chieftain of the Brutes, The Prophets handed over extensive amounts of technology to the Brutes in exchange for protection. However, even after the technology was recieved from the prophets, they slowly began to disappear, until their numbers were at zero, leaving the brutes to fend for themselves.
Biology / Geneology
Prophets are known to have very limited reproductive cycles. As such, their population is smaller than most other species. Further information remains a mystery.
Physical Appearence
Prophets are frail, and generally physically inferior to most races, including Humans. They are not known for speed, and their long necks give them a very clear disadvantage when in combat, if they have ever engaged in combat that is.
Personality / Behaviour
Prophets are very zealous and arrogent creatures. They were very egotistical, and very manipulative. They manipulated all of the other races in the Covenant on a false promise. As the self-proclaimed representatives of the gods, the Prophets held a great amount of power over the other races of the Covenant, earning reverential titles such as "Holy One" and "Eminence. This only served to bolster their egos.
Director Vernette's Personal Notes
These guys are one of the most confusing, arrogant, and generally stupid species around. If you question them, its heresy. If you look at them wrong, its heresy. These guys apparently ran the Covenant without question. Everything they said was reguarded as holy and unquestionable. Now, for all we know, they are in hiding for fear of their lives.
Generally speaking, Prophets are very fragile and very slow moving. They are by no means suited for direct combat. However, they are very intelligent, which makes the very good candidates for ship masters and naval operators. However, their chance for this has come and gone as they no longer seem like a very viable threat.
