2520 - The Trust Incident

Rear-Admiral Brandon Yates accomanied Vice-Admiral Jeffery Skinner to Harvest in an effort to recruit Commander Preston Vernette into ONI Section 0. Yates was largely opposed to the idea of recruiting Vernette. Yates believed that ONI Section 0 was placing far too much value on Vernette. He argued that Vernette's expertise in weapons and technology was not rare, and that any number of people could replace Vernette. Yates even argued that ONI Section 0's contract with Korman Industies more than filled the services that Vernette offered. However, Yates' concerns were dismissed by ONI Section 0.

Yates, although not in agreement with ONI Section 0 concerning the matter, oversaw the full recruitment of Vernette, and ensured that Vernette's needs were met. Yates often spoke to Vernette in a very disparaging tone, often giving Vernette a hard time for the most innocuous of problems, such as being a minute late for a meeting. However, despite Yates' personal issues with Vernette, Yates had to eventually agree that Vernette was very good at what he did.

About a month after Vernette had been recruited into ONI Section 0, Yates had found himself in the middle of an investigation concerning Preston Vernette and Vice-Admiral Constantine Spender. Yates learned that Spender had made several attempts to recruit Preston Vernette into an organization known as the Trust. It was also learned that Spender had recruited a highly dangerous Class 0 Spartan by the name of Lucien-Z002. Yates met with Vernette and Skinner, along with several ONI Section 0 operatives, namely Dr. David Burke, Cameron-Z091, Nikolai-Z035, Major Marshall Winters, and Lt. Colonel Dylan Everet. Yates and Skinner aggred that Vernette should lead the aforementioned operatives on a mission to capture Spender and return Lucien to ONI Section 0.

In order to fully carry out this mission, Vernette was granted command of The King Raven, a Halcyon class battle ship that was intended to fall under the command of Yates. Yates was very displeased with this outcome, and this resulted in a grudge against Vernette. As it turned out, after Vernette had successfully completed his mission, by bringing Spender back to faces corruption charges and by capturing Lucien and bringing him back to ONI Section 0, Yates was summoned by the now incarcerated Spender. Spender offered Yatea a deal; in exchange for destroying evidence to convict Spender of any wrong-doing, Spender would use his authoirty in Section 0 to do everything he could to get The King Raven back under the command of Yates. Yates agreed to this proposal, and in turn, joined the Trust in Vernette's place. After Spender was cleared of all charges, command of The King Raven was transfered back to Yates.

The First Battle of Harvest

In an emergancy situation, Yates found once again that the King Raven, which had undergone serious combat refits, was placed back under the command of the now Captain Vernette. Yates did not like this decision one bit. He felt that his ship was constantly taken from him to fill Vernette's needs. Despite Yates' objections, Skinner transfered command of the King Raven back to Vernette.

As a result, Yates had no direct involvement with The First Battle of Harvest.

Despite Yates' objections, Skinner transfered command of the King Raven back to Vernette.

As a result, Yates had no direct involvement with The First Battle of Harvest.

Paradise Lost

Deputy Director Yates did not directly participate in the fighting on Paradise Lost. However, he was involved in a plan to have a captured Brute transfered to ONI Section 0 for analysis and interrogation. His ship arrived at Paradise Lost during the Covenant attack on the planet. His ship was damaged, and was crippled and shot down by Covenant forces. Yates was able to survive the crash, along with several other Class 0 SPartans. While trying to escape from his ship, Yates and the Spartans were attacked by Chieftain Barrabus. Chieftain Barrabus had been captured by the Spartans and held aboard The King Raven until such time he could be transfered to ONI Section 0.

During this time, Yates had had many arguments with Rear-Admiral Preston Vernette about the ethical treatment of the Brute POW. Yates was adament that he be allowed immediate access to the Brute Chieftain to begin immediate interrogation using torture as the primary method. Preston Vernette was against the idea of using any hostile or abusive means on the Brute CHieftain. This disagreement led to open hostilities between the two men, culminating in a physical confrontation between the two. However, Yates had recieved orders from ONI Section 0 that he was permitted to take the Brute from the custody of The King Raven to be interrogated.

Unfortunatly for Yates and Section 0, the Brute Chieftain escaped captivity with the assistance of an unidentifed ODST. The Brute Chieftain was able to escape, much to the dismay of Yates.

Post Paradise Lost

After the events of Paraddise Lost, Yates was part of a prosecuting team that had Vernette court marshelled for his actions on Paradise Lost. Yates had Vernette court marshelled for various offenses, such as assault on a superior officer, and insubordination. Although no formal charges were laid on Vernette, Yates saw to it that if Vernette ever stepped out of line again, there would be heavy consequences for Vernette. After the court hearings, Yates resumed his position at the Mercury Shipyards, the location where the Cloak and Dagger was being built. It was not long after the hearings that two unidentified terrorists, later identified as Nighthawk and Anaconda, attacked the Mercury Shipyards and stole a prototype Vulture that had been equipped with an advanced slipspace drive core and stealth technology. THis Vulture was part of project CLOAK AND DAGGER, an ONI Section 0 undertaking which saw to outfit a large battle ship and supporting crafts with advanced stealth and slipspace drive core technology. It was during this attack that Yates learned that Director Kapsky was killed by Nighthawk and Anaconda to gain access to the shipyard.

After the attack on the Mercury Shipyard, Yates, who was a member of the UNSC Security Council, attempted to replace Director Kapsky as the new Director of ONI Section 0. However, Vernette, who had recently been appointed to the UNSC Security Council himself, brought the matter to a vote, and managed to get the rest of the UNSC Security Council to vote against Yates on the matter. THis resulted in Yates not getting the position, and a new Director was to be chosen and elected.

Genesis

Before the Covenant invasion of Genesis, Yates was present on The King Raven with the intention of briefing the crew on the terrorists known as Nighthawk and Anaconda.

Genesis - 2539

Before the Covenant invasion of Genesis, Yates was present on The King Raven with the intention of briefing the crew of The King Raven on the terrorists known as Nighthawk and Anaconda. However, Rear-Admiral Vernette, knowing of the imending Covenant threat to Genesis, spoke out against Yates' decision to commit the full resources of The King Raven against Nighthawk and Anaconda. Vernette even went so far as to reveal the imending threat to Genesis by the Covenant. This resulted in Vernette being relieved his his command of The King Raven. However, Yates did not expect that some of Vernette's crew would not stand for Vernette losing command. This result in a mjaority of the crew of The King Raven disobeying Yates' orders to pursue Nighthawk and Anaconda, and instead, utilize the time they had to prepare defenses against the Covenant.

Eventually, Yates lost control of The King Raven to Vernette's crew, and he was forced to take a back seat in the defense of Genesis. After Genesis had been saved, due in large part to the actions of Nighthawk and Anaconda, as well as Vernette's crew, Yates departed The King Raven and returned to ONI Section 0.

Military History

The Trust Incident - 2520

The First Battle of Harvest - 2525

In an emergancy situation, Yates found once again that the King Raven, which had undergone serious combat refits, was placed back under the command of the now Captain Vernette. Yates did not like this decision one bit. He felt that his ship was constantly taken from him to fill Vernette's needs. Despite Yates' objections, Skinner transfered command of the King Raven back to Vernette.

As a result, Yates had no direct involvement with The First Battle of Harvest.

New Harmony - 2537

Paradise Lost - 2538

The Trust Incident - 2520

The Battle of New Harmony - 2537

Information unavilable at this time.

The battle of Paradise Lost - 2538

Post Paradise Lost - 2538

The Battle of Genesis - 2539
