Black 1 sighed. He led The Blue Bomber out of the basement, and out of the house.
Black 1: God...finally...
Black 2, 3, and 4 took up the rear, and walked behind The Blue Bomber, ensuring that he would not try and bolt off. They each had their weapons at the ready in case The Blue Bomber tried to run off.
Black 1 walked outside, and looked upwards, and then signaled the Pelican again.
Black 1: Evac...where is our ride?
Pelican Pilot: I am en-route sir. I had to make a detour to avoid some of the local air traffic security. ETA...two minutes.
Black 1: Good...Black 1 out.
Black 1 closed the comm line and sighed again. He looked at his team mates.
Black 1: Evac is on its way...2 minutes...
Black 2: Good...I can't wait to get out of this place. I think I am going to commission a new set of armor...I don't think I will ever get the smell out.
Black 3: We could try puking on it...it might smell a bit better...
Black 2: Noted for future reference...
Black 1 remained silent. He simply waited for the Pelican. It was not long after that the Pelican did arrive, and landed near Black Team and Blue Bomber.
Black 1: Let's go boys...move out!
Black 1 led the group, and ran towards the Pelican and jumped on. Black 2 nudged Blue Bomber, forcing him into the Pelican. Black 3 and 4 followed suit. After Black 4 had entered the Pelican, the rear hatch sealed shut, and the Pelican lifted off.
Meanwhile:
Nighthawk and Anaconda were busy loading weapons and supplies onto The Prowler. They were finishing up when Vernette entered the hanger bay. He had a datapad under his arm.
Vernette: Gentlemen...I see you are cleaning house...going through all my stuff...
Nighthawk: All this stuff looks good...it is tough to leave it behind.
Vernette: I see...
Anaconda stepped forward.
Anaconda: What do you need human?
Vernette: I have one final job for you guys before you leave...
Vernette handed Nighthawk the datapad. Anaconda looked over Nighthawk's shoulder.
Anaconda: What is this?
Vernette: I will have you both know...the The Trust has been conducting illegal experimentation and cloning procedures. ONI has done some preliminary investigations...and they have determined thatThe Trust has been manufacturing ELites and Brutes for use as...disposable shock troopers.
Anaconda looked at Vernette.
Anaconda: What!?
Vernette: A large portion of The Trust's military backbone is comprised of cloned Elites and Brutes. ONI has observed that The Trust will use these clones as cannon fodder and disposable soldiers for front line assaults. According to all reports...The Elites and Brutes seem to be totally loyal to The Trust. Our guess is that The Trust has developed a sophisticated genome map of the DNA structure for both Elites and Brutes...as well as a sophisticated manipulation techniques in order to maintain total control of the clones.
Anaconda: What has been done to stop this!
Vernette: Beyond killing them? Nothing. We have no idea where they are being...manufactured...
Anaconda growled at Vernette.
Vernette: Dunno why you are mad at me. The fact of the matter is...it is The Trust doing this...not ONI...and not me.
Anaconda: Humans...only humans would develop the technology to do this...
Vernette: We tend to develop all sorts of technology. I will not deny that some of the technology The Trust is using may of been derived from early experimentation done during The Human-Covenant war. The research was abandoned, for the most part, by the UNSC and ONI when the war ended...but no doubt in my mind exists that The Trust continued the research and perfected it.
Anaconda: Has my father been informed of this?
Vernette: I am currently in the process of preparing to inform him. I make it good practice to only report things when I have a viable solution to the problem,
Anaconda: Yet you tell us without having a viable solution. I question your honesty..."Director".
Vernette: How wrong you are. The reason I am telling you now...is because you two...ARE my viable solution. Consider it top priority to seek out information pertaining to these clones...and exercise all necessary force to stop their production. If you agree to this..."added assignment"...then I will have my viable soltuon, and I will be prepared to inform Barrabus of these developments, as well as what I plan to do about it. I consider this a matter of Internal Security...so I am taking this very seriously.
Vernette stepped forward.
Vernette: So...will you take on the extra responsibility?
Vernette winced. He glared at Anaconda.
Vernette: Or turn the hypothetical tail and scour away like an Elite?
Anaconda growled right in Vernette's face. He bared his teeth.
Anaconda: How dare you...
Vernette: Answer the question...
Anaconda growled again.
Vernette: I'll remind you...that there is no noise you can make, no amount of teeth you can show, and no amount of breath you can breath in my face to stagger me. I have been declared legally dead...twice...correction...three times. I have been stabbed, shot, beaten, tossed around...I have had ribs broken, bones fractures...survived vehicular accidents, been in near death firefights, been rendered comatose...and I have even been tortured...BY YOU...for 6 days...endlessly...and I have never broken my stance or staggered once. SO...stop the posturing...and give me your answer...
Anaconda breathed heavily for a few moments. However, he quickly began to calm down. He stepped back.
Vernette simply glared at Anaconda.
Anaconda: You have some serious weight between your legs human...I have killed people for far less...
Vernette: Do not remind me about the weight between my legs...they are mine...I know very well how much they weigh.
Anaconda: Very well human...you want my answer? My answer is that I WILL stop these clones...on one condition...
Vernette: Lucky for you...I am in this sector of space as a diplomat...so I am in a diplomatic mood. Name your condition.
Anaconda: The human...the one responsible for these clones...I get to eat the human...
Vernette: Deal. Just be sure to not leave any bones...I would rather not waste public funding on a trail...and heaven forbid...lawyers...
Anaconda: Believe me...there will not be a single bone left...
Vernette: Good...very good.
Vernette turned and walked away, saying one final statement as he left.
Vernette: Good hunting gentlemen...
Vernette left the hanger bay.
Nighthawk then looked at Anaconda.
Nighthawk: Do I have to watch you eat things?
Anaconda grunted and turned away, boarding The Prowler.
Nighthawk: I hope that was a no...
