Avatar. The word's definition sums up my review, embodiment: a new personification of a familiar idea. Thats exactly what this movie was, a rehash of a familiar idea or story. In this case it was Pocohontas. I saw Pocohontas when it was released I thought it was good for its time, but James Cameron freaking worshiped it. If you have never seen Avatar or Pocohontas here's the basic rundown:
"Explorers" settle in a "New World" and find it is filled with "resources" that the settlers want but the natives are protecting. so instead of trying brute force they send a "diplomat" to learn their culture and the diplomat is sentenced to death by the "chief of the tribe" he is then saved by the chiefs daughter and shown the ways of the tribe by the princess. He then learns the tribes ways and falls in love with the princess. he then helps them fight back against the more advanced settlers. in the first attack the chief is killed and the diplomat takes the reigns of the tribes and leads them to war in turn winning the battle and sending them back to where they came, but he lives with the natives.
Now in general thats the story of both movies. even down to a spiritual tree. Now sure the visuals are amazing and the story is based in space but it all boils donw to being an unoriginal pile of bollocks. If i wanted to watch pocohontas i would have paid five dollars to buy it, not 16 freaking dollars to watch it be put through the blender with smurfs and starship troopers. All in all i give this movie a 4 out of 10. the sound and visuals are amazing but storytelling and character development is just shit. i'll add more to this review later i'm just so pissed off now i'll need a nice refreshing beer and maybe some wolverine origins. oh yea i'll review that piece of shit another time.
ideas are always being used that may be the same but mean different things even if the plot does seem the same as another movie and besides we all get inspirations from wacthing movies reading or just seeing stuff point is ideas run out sometimes
