Tye was listening to the comm chatter. He listened to the Vulture pilot dish out orders. He did not say anything, but he knew he had to act.
Tye then spoke to Robert and Cameron.
Tyber: THose Covenant bastards are trying to take away our air advantage. By the sounds of it, they are trying to get a foothold on the skies by dropping in AA Wraiths. They already have one AA Wraith on the ground, and I am willing to bet my life on the fact that they are going to try and drop more.
Tye paused.
Tyber: If my years of experience means diddly squat, then the first place we should position ourselves to stop the Covenant from creating a beach head to attack our air forces, would be the location of that current AA Wraith. Standard attack pattern suggests that they will work outwards from this position!
Tye put the Warthog into drive, as he began to drive down the street again.
Tyber: We are moving to the focal point of AA activity, and we are gonna cut these SOBs down. There is no doubt that they will try to lift Wraiths into position used Phantoms. We are going to shoot those Phantoms down before they reach their targets. We have a Guass turret, and one of those Flak Cannons. Let's do some damage!
Tye continued to drive through the street. He knew with Cameron on the gun and Robert in the passenger seat, combined with his exceptional driving ability, he knew that he could put the hurt on The Covenant just enough to give the air force all the leverage they need to strike down hostiles from the sky.
Meanwhile:
The Vulture and accompanying Hornet's had raised their altitude to make it much more difficult for the slow moving flak to be of any particular use or threat to the well being of the air support. By the time that any Covenant hostile had fired off any AA Weapon, the Hornet's and Vulture had long since moved out of the way.
However, the rapid speeds of the missiles and chaingun bullets that the Hornet's were firing made it much easier for the air force to pick off and desolate Covenant AA.
The Vulture, which was keeping its distance, was firing off it's twin cannons and was just decimating rooftop after rooftop of Covenant AA.
Vulture Pilot: Keep it up boys. We should have these roofs clean in no time at this rate! Keep firing! These idiots are going to need something a lot faster and a lot closer if they are going to take us down.
Meanwhile:
The two phantoms that were under Voro's Command were in close range of UNSC Airfield Mayweather.
The first Phantom, that was carrying Voro, landed just outside the Airfield, while the second Phantom kept going, under active camo, to the other side of the base to start the flanking maneuver.
As Voro, and his team of roughly 18 Spec Ops moved forward, they made no effort to conceal themselves, as they were looking for a fight. The entire Airfield itself was surrounded by a large 15 foot concrete wall, with the exception to a break in the wall which allowed vehicles and personnel to move through. This area was secured by a squad of Marines. As Voro and his Spec-Ops approached this location, the Marines alerted the rest of the base, and sounded an alarm, indicating that The Covenant was attacking.
Voro: As expected...the filth will divert more of its forces to this location...leaving the interior of the base almost unprotected.
Voro and his Spec-Ops readied themselves for battle as they began to fire their Carbines at the Marines, forcing them down into cover. Voro and his Spec-Ops just moved forward, not stopping at all, despite the dangers. Their combined firepower totally suppressed any sort of return fire from the squad of Marines that was on station.
Voro: Push forward brothers! Fear neither pain or death!
As Voro said this, The Phantom that dropped him, and his team, off disengaged it's active camo. The chin-mounted plasma cannon started to fire at the squad of Marines who were in cover. The plasma barrage tore apart their cover, and smashed the defensive line the Marines had set up. In effect, the path for Voro to move in was totally clear. With the added support from the Phantom, Voro and his Spec-Ops would be able to topple UNSC AIrfield Mayweather in no time at all.
Meanwhile:
Jennifer, who was still tending to the wounded, heard the alarm.
Jennifer: What the hell is going on now?
Jennifer contacted all points on the base.
Jennifer: This is Captain Frost to all points stationed on Airfield Mayweather. I need a sit-rep!
After a moment, Jennifer got a response.
Marine: Ma'am...this is Sergeant Willis. We are under attack by The Covenant. We have one Phantom and close to two dozen Special Operation Elites...arrh...
Jennifer listened as the line went dead.
Jennifer: Sergeant? Do you copy? Sergeant Willis, do you read me?
All Jennifer could hear is the gunfire of Marines and the weapons fire of Carbines coming in over the comm. She could hear one of the Marines over the comm ordering everyone to fall back and regroup.
Jennifer shook her head, as she was still with over a dozen injured soldiers who were in no way ready to be moved, nor were they combat ready. Jennifer sighed, as she ran to a weapons rack, and grabbed an Assault Rifle. She then looked at two ODSTs that were stationed with her, guarding her post.
Jennifer: You two, get out there, round up as many people as you can, and consolidate out lines. Form a perimeter around this building, and hold The Covenant off while I get the injured ready to move out. We still have a few Pelicans sitting around in one of the large hangers. We will use those to get the hell out of here when the injured are prepped.
ODST 1: Yes Ma'am!
The two ODST's moved out, as ordered. Jennifer holstered the Assault Rifle on her back, as she started to do very quick patch jobs on the injured. She needed to move as fast as possible if she was going to get anyone out of here alive.
Meanwhile:
Vernette and Barrabus, who were currently still on the Venture Capitalist, were busy discussing their next move. They were on their way down to the hanger of the Venture Capitalist, ready to hit the surface.
Barrabus: So...we are returning to the surface. Why?
Vernette: To be honest...I think we are bound to find more answers down there than up here. Besides, with HAWK running over everything we have again, and pressing every possible source of information on this planet, we can double our chances of getting our next lead by leaving the ship.
Vernette shrugged.
Vernette: Besides...we can do some damage to The Covenant while we poke around. Two birds, one stone.
Barrabus: If you say so.
Vernette chuckled a bit.
Vernette: Well, it never hurts to lend a hand. We both know the UNSC needs it now, more than ever.
Barrabus: So...where exactly are we going to start?
Vernette: We are going to Carver. Reason being, there is a constantly growing Covenant presence there. If the Covenant see fit to amass in this location, there must be a reason. They must be after something beyond killing humans. Their movements have been very precise thus far. There is no reason for a random deviation to the established pattern. We know, almost for certain, that there is a direct connection between The Trust and The Covenant, at least in one way. We cannot rule out the possibility that The Covenant is being baited by The Trust to inadvertently do any dirty work for The Trust.
Barrabus: Hmmm...
Vernette: What is it?
Barrabus: I know for certain that I have a few friends here, on San Angeles. Perhaps we can use this to our advantage.
Vernette: Explain?
Barrabus: Remember when we were at UNSC Regional HQ Bravo? DO you remember Dangerus, the other Brute Chieftain I fought?
Vernette: Yes I do.
Barrabus: Do you remember Xyrho, the Elite I fought on the roof when we went to help your token Spartan that you like?
Vernette: I do remember that as well. For the record, that Spartan's name is Cameron. He is one of the few that I can consider a friend.
Barrabus: Yeah, whatever...
Barrabus grunted.
Barrabus: The point is...Xyrho and Dangerus...are both very intelligent...and very reasonable. It is why I consider them to be among my friends.
Vernette: Helpful for Barrabus...not for Anaconda.
Barrabus: They are still reasonable. We could always tell them what we know. If the Trust is baiting them, we could interfere with that. We could shake things up a little...and shake lose any proxy control The Trust may be exhibiting.
Vernette: That is a good idea.
Barrabus: No doubt, we should be able to find both Xyrho and Dangerus, or at least one of them, in Carver. They are both hands on Commanders when the need arises. We should keep our eyes open, and take advantage of this.
Vernette: Agreed! If it means kicking The Trust in the shins to make them stumble...I am all for it.
Barrabus: While we are at it, we should defiantly consider informing a few of your people about what we know. However, as Humans are more inclined to be involved with The Trust than any Covenant contact would be...we should evaluate that decision carefully. If we can manipulate events, even slightly, we stand a better chance. I suggest we manipulate someone high up...someone with lots of command, and pull.
Vernette: I can think of a few people that we could..."manipulate"...
Vernette shook his head.
Vernette: Such a dirty word...
Barrabus grunted in agreement.
Barrabus: It has to be done...dirty word or not.
Vernette nodded, as the two walked into the hanger bay. Vernette put his helmet back on, and fastened it to his armor.
Nighthawk: Alright, let's get this show on the road!
Barrabus put his helmet back on, and the two boarded their Vulture, ready to depart.
