DUe to its massive popularity, this weapon saw a high degree of use and adoption in the UNSC military. Generally considered to be one of the most well-rounded and versatile weapons in the UNSC armory, the BR55HB SR Battle Rifle is suitable for almost any situation, from close to medium range. However, due to the technical limitations of the standard issue scope, the long range applications of this weapon remain questionable. The 36 round clip makes this weapon ideal for controlled suppression of hostile targets. Expert marksmen would typically use this weapon to great effect to thin out waves of Covenant cannon fodder. Used in conjunction with coordinated firepower, shielded hostiles can be dispatched rather quickly. It should be noted that expert operators, and some ONI personnel, have been observed using this weapon in conjunction with recovered Type-25 Directed Energy Pistols to eliminate the most heavily shielded opponents. ONI Variant The BR55HB SR Battle Rifle - ONI Variant is the standard sniper rifle that has been designated exclusively for ONI personnel. This weapon has been upgraded to offer more versatility and higher reliability than the UNSC counter-part. It serves as a suppression and medium to short range counter-infantry weapon. As opposed to the standard BR55HB, the BR55HB SR Battle Rifle - ONI Variant is capable of much more forceful bullet impact and improved range, stability, and accuracy. This weapon is standard issue on all ONI ships as of 2555. ONI marines can be seen using this weapon when deployed in the field. The weapon sports a very stylish semi-matte black finish on the rubber grips, with a slight navy blue polish on the metal. The weapon itself proves generally effective against shields at any range. Although the accuracy is excellent, the weapon itself proves to be slightly inaccurate in the hands of a novice when being used simply due to the recoil. The weapon fires single shot bursts in an attempt to help counter the bullet velocity recoil. Although not as powerful as a sniper rifle, this weapon can do serious damage. It is mounted with an ammo counter and an ACOG scope. Additionally, the ONI Variant of this weaopon can change to single burst mode, to further increase precision and stability. Director Vernette's Personal Notes BR55HB Battle Rifles are very versatile weapons. Medium to short range makes this weapon a match for almost anything, short of another Battle Rifle or a sniper weapon. It is light, never jams, and has very little recoil. I have never seen a team of marines hit their feet on the field without a few of these on hand. If I was to make a guess, this is possibly the most popular weapon in ONI. There is one thing about this gun that bugs me...the scope. Perhaps it is just me...but I always found the scope a little too hard to aim through. Too small if you ask me. -Director Vernette
