Cochraine, Silverblur, and Fireteam Harmony pointed their weapons at Harvey and the Trust troops. All five of them faced their backs away from the entrance, facing every soldier. Cochraine pointed her magnum at Harvey, unsure if she should have made the first move and contemplating the odds of getting away with it.

Cochraine: "What do you want, Harvey?"

Harvey: "Captain Cochraine, I'm here to break up this meeting. I'm also here to capture the wanted fugitive known by the alias, Silverblur. I must thank you, without your help, we couldn't have gotten him out in the open. Your help was instrumental. I thank you."

Silverblur turned his head slightly to catch Cochraine in the peripheral, still pointing his gun at the Trust troops.

Silverblur: "What are you saying? That Cochraine lured me here just so you can capture me?"

Harvey: "That's exactly what I'm saying. We told her to message you. We knew she had the right way to get you to come out here and she completed her objective perfectly."

All four Spartans were slightly dumbstruck. They couldn't believe what they were hearing.

Silverblur: "Is this true, Captain?"

Cochraine had made a face of shock and disgust.

Cochraine: "Of course it isn't! After everything that has happened to me in the last 15 years, do you really think I would betray my people to them?"

Harvey watched silently, a smirk on her face. She had begun to sow the seeds of dissent among the would-be allies.

Silverblur: "Well she's not wrong! I was lured out here by you and evidence points to the contrary. Here we are, surrounded by a couple dozen Trust operatives, all of them ready to open fire."

Cochriane: "And I'm telling you, I do NOT work for the Trust!"

Silverblur: "You have some nerve, you know that? I thought Reynolds was a treacherous snake, but at least he owned up to it. You don't even do that."

Cochraine lowered her weapon and addressed Harvey.

Cochraine: "When you have Silverblur, will you allow me, my team, and my ship to leave in peace?"

Harvey took a moment to think, bringing her left hand to her chin and rubbing it for a moment.

Harvey: "I suppose I could. I wasn't ordered to deal with you. If you put up no resistance and walk out quietly, you can leave with no blood spilled."

Cochraine took a moment to think about what Harvey said, looking her in the eye to see if she was lying. She then looked at Silverblur, her morality debating whether or not to leave the pirate to his fate or save him. She wanted his help but he was refusing to cooperate. She brought her pistol back up and aimed it at Harvey.

Harvey: "Very well, Captain. I see you made your choice."

Harvey took a couple steps back to allow the ODSTs to fill in the space where she stood. She then tapped her earpiece.

Harvey: "Open fire."

The Trust soldiers open fired on the five. Robertson managed to push Cochraine with heavy force, behind cover, keeping her safe. All four Spartans then dove for cover, their shields taking the shots. They all took several moments to allow the shields to recharge. When the first wave of soldiers stopped firing, Cochraine peaked from behind cover to see Harvey boarding her vulture. She felt an explosion as the landing pad began to break and fall apart, destroying the ships.

The second wave of Trust soldiers opened fire, spraying the cover. The Spartans were blindfiring from behind cover. They had no plan for a counter offensive and no way to call for help. They were truly alone. Robertson then spoke out loud.

Robertson: "I have a plan; Axlon and I will toss two flashbangs."

Robertson then tossed Silverblur a grenade.

Robertson: "You and Cadieux will toss the smoke grenades first, with our flash afterwards. We'll give them time to switch to thermals. When they do, we'll toss the flash into the smoke. From there, the four of us will engage in close quarters. Sound?"

Silverblur had no objections, so long as he got out alive. The other two Spartans nodded. Silverblur looked at Cadieux, counting down on his fingers. When he made a fist the two tossed their smoke grenades. The group could hear the Trust ODSTs yelling to take cover. The grenades went off and they audibly ordered to switch to thermals. Axlon and Robertson were ready to toss the flashbangs. Robertson poked his head out to see how much smoke was covering the room. All the Trust ODSTs were engulfed in the smoke. Robertson did the same countdown, the two synchronizing their grenade toss. They ducked behind cover where they heard the grenades go off and the agonizing sounds from the Trust.

The Spartans didn't even wait for a signal. They immediately fell in taking out their knives. They, like the Trust, had their thermals engaged and could see the Trust troops, since they didn't get blinded by the flashbangs. Cochraine watched from her cover. She couldn't see much. She could occasionally see a black silhouette, but she could hear the bodies dropping. When the smoke cleared, the last of the Trust troops were being killed. When the last one fell, they Spartans were covered in blood, looking around at the carnage, verifying that everyone was killed. Cochraine stood up from cover and saw Harvey's vulture lining up with the main hall's windows.

Cochraine: "GET DOWN!"

Cochraine yelled to the Spartans as the vulture began to spin up its machine guns. The guns continued to fire and then rockets were launched with the guns. All four Spartans were in cover, but that was changing quickly. Silverblur then yelled out with a plan.

Silverblur: "I can take it down! You three need to be a distraction for me though!"

Harmony didn't speak, they just nodded in agreement. Robertson then counted down on his hand again. Fireteam Harmony advanced to the front of the facility, kiting around the remaining bits of the wall, namely support structures. Cochraine watched as Silverblur waited for his moment. When a break cleared he began to run as fast as he could out the far left entrance to the science station. With Harvey distracted on Harmony she didn't see Silverblur's charge. Cochraine watched as Silverblur used thrusters to enhance his momentum. When it looked like he was about to run off the side of the science station, a jet pack activated and the forward velocity he achieved thrusted him right onto the cockpit window of the vulture.

The pilot was shocked to see the Spartan in front of him on the window. Silverblur didn't waste his opportunity. He began to punch the window repeatedly. When he finally got it to shatter, he yanked the pilot out and threw him. The Trust pilot landed on the remaining balcony of the facility where Harmony dragged him into the safety of the facility. As Cochraine was checking his vitals, she, along with Harmony were watching the vulture spiral out of control. Silverblur jumped off the vulture, activating his thrusters and then the jetpack to land on the balcony.

The vulture continued to spiral downwards to the surface of the planet, the fog and vegetation quickly absorbing the ship. About a minute later, the party heard an explosion, the vulture finally meeting a surface harder than it. Silverblur approached the group.

Silverblur: "Is he still alive?"

Cochraine nodded.

Silverblur: "Good, now we can use him to radio for help."

Silverblur took a moment to look the man over.

Silverblur: "Thank you for the help. But my terms are still non-negotiable. Salvage rights or no help in the fight."

Cochraine: "Okay, I will need to clear it with my superiors, but I can't make any promises."

The Trust pilot began to wake up from his temporary unconsciousness where he saw the four Spartans looking over him. Silverblur then grabbed the man by his collar.

Silverblur: "With communications out, we're in a bit of a pinch. Mind doing us a favor and radioing a ship to come down here?"

The Trust pilot spit on Silverblur's VISR. Silverblur merely tightened his grip.

Silverblur: "Let me rephrase that, you will call for a ship to come down here."

The pilot put his hand to his radio in his helmet.

Trust Pilot: "This is vulture 4-9 requesting reinforcements on the surface. The Spartans are loose."

Silverblur then snapped the man's neck. Everyone else looking at him in disgust.

Cochraine: "Was that really necessary?"

Silverblur: "Letting him live could have let him give a detailed analysis of the situation. He served his usefulness."

In about a minute, the requested vulture descended. The five took cover, hiding out of sight. ODSTs disembarked and made a perimeter. Axlon engaged his cloak and began to slowly move past them, not allowing his cloak shimmer give him away. The ODSTs began to advance into the facility where the first two were met with gunfire. As the ODSTs became distracted, Axlon hurried his pace and boarded the hovering vulture. He then disengaged the cloak and began to kill any remaining Trust personnel on the vulture.

Axlon then took a seat in the pilot's chair and turned the vulture around to point its weapons at the remaining Trust ODSTs. Axlon used the mounted machine gun to mow the rest of them down. When it was clear, he moved the ship to allow everyone else to board. When they were on-board, he closed the hatch and began to fly into orbit. As they began to break atmosphere, they could see that the eight pirate ships and the Infinity's Voyage were engaged in combat with a sizeable Trust fleet. Axlon then radioed the Infinity's Voyage.

Axlon: "Infinity's Voyage, this is Spartan Axlon. We are in a Trust vulture on approach. Authorized verification Delta-3-9-Alpha."

Littleton: "Verified. Hangar Bay 2 is empty and awaiting return."

Cochraine climbed into the cockpit and took the co-pilot's seat and used the helmet's commline.

Cochraine: "Commander, when we're on board, prepare a retreat. Signal the pirates to meet us back in orbit of Midnight. We'll finish negotiations and drop off their leader there."

Littleton: "Yes ma'am. See you on board."

The vulture continued to beeline to the Infinty's Voyage, now gaining the attention of the Trust fleet. A fighter squadron began to break off of it's previous attack and intercept the vulture.

Axlon: "We have incoming! Hang on!"

The vulture began to take evasive maneuvers avoiding as much fire as possible. The vulture was nearing the hangar bay when it took a direct hit to a stabilization engine. The Infinity's Voyage's point defense system began to focus on the lone squadron, shooting down most of the pursuing fighters. The vulture entered the hangar, but couldn't stay level. Axlon dropped the ship and a loud thud echoed throughout the underbelly of the Halcyon-class cruiser.

Cochraine: "We're on board, go!"

Cochraine watched as the ship began to make an emergency slipspace jump. After several moments, the ship entered slipspace and was safe for the time being.

New Harmony – Planet Surface – Ruins of The City of Monastir – 1445 Hours - October 9th 2555
=============================================================

As Director Vernette and Chieftain Barrabus exchanged looks, Vernette spoke up.

Vernette: Nova Team, Corvo, Cameron...fan out, and double check the perimeter. Make sure this place is quiet.

Barrabus turned to his honor guards, and nodded at them. The honor guards nodded back, knowing full well what Barrabus wanted.

As Nova Team, Corvo, Cameron, and The HOnor Guards spread out and gave one final check to the perimeter, Barrabus looked down at Vernette.

Barrabus: So, you sure The Trust will be here?

Vernette: Positive. I allowed this intel to leak on an ONI subnet we know has been compromised by The Trust. They have no idea we have been using it as a honeypot.

Barrabus nodded, as he grunted.

Barrabus: Good.

Barrabus growled.

Barrabus: Hopefully this plan of yours does not backfire.

Vernette: Believe me, Big Guy, this ain't my first rodeo. counter-intelligence is something, as Director, I am very good at. It is basically my job half the time. This conflict with The Trust requires creative thinking, and the weaponization of information.

Vernette paused.

Vernette: However, if things start going south, I have a backup plan.

Barrabus: Oh?

Vernette: After The Trust attacked Midnight, 8 days ago, I sent Tye and Dancarus to retrieve The Venture Capitalist from The Citadel's Oversight bay. The Venture Capitalist has been shadowing my task force since we left Midnight, utilizing that wonderful stealth system. It is in orbit, right now, waiting to be called upon, in case an exit strategy is needed.

Vernette grinned.

Vernette: Believe me, I have covered the bases as much as possible.

Barrabus: Good.

Barrabus growled.

Barrabus: I guess if all else fails, we just do it the old fashioned way.

Vernette: Of course...

Vernette paused.

Vernette: But...we let the redundancies run their course first.

Barrabus: Very well...

Barrabus paused for a moment, as he grunted.

Barrabus: So...Nova Team?

Vernette: Yep...Nova Team.

Barrabus: Does that mean...

Vernette: Yep...The Consultant. You're favorite.

Barrabus growled.

Barrabus: I would not call her my favorite. She is your problem, not mine.

Vernette: No, she isn't a problem. She has been good to ONI. She has been loyal. She has done good work for ONI.

Vernette grinned.

Vernette: I don't mind having her around, to be honest. She knows what she is doing. It is better to have her on our side, than theirs. It is why I pardoned her, and Nova Team. That was loyalty that was well worth it.

Barrabus: I guess that is true.

Vernette: The price was high, though.

Vernette sighed, as his eyes were drawn upwards, as two Phantoms flew by.

Vernette: Those are Sangheili Phantoms. Xyrho is here...

Vernette put his hand to his ear, as he summoned Nova Team, Corvo, and Cameron.

Vernette: All points, this is Director Vernette. Showtime. Fall back to my position.

Barrabus lifted his hands, as he spoke into a small device attached to his wrist.

Barrabus: Honor Guards...return to me...

Barrabus sighed, as he lowered his hand to his sighed, and growled anxiously.

Vernette: Nervous? That is not like you.

Barrabus: I just hope I did not bite off more than I can chew with this. I have not had any contact with Xyrho since The Schism.

Barrabus paused.

Barrabus: While we were friends, ending up on two different sides of a very bitter blood feud has a way of distorting your perspective. I just hope that he is still receptive to me, as a friend.

Barrabus sighed.

Barrabus: Though, he does have appearances to keep, as do I.

Vernette: Leave the bridge building to me. Appearances are everything, and ONI has to look good in all of this.

Barrabus grunted, as he gave a nod.

Vernette: If I can make this work...we will have these Trust SOBs on the ropes. They will be outgunned for sure.

Vernette took a deep breath, and exhaled, as he could hear the two Phantoms landing in the distance.

Vernette: Alright...lets move out...

New Harmony – Planet Surface – Ruins of The City of Monastir – 1450 Hours - October 9th 2555
=============================================================

As Xyrho's and Rah'Jesh's Phantoms touched down on the ground, and their engines powered down, Xyrho opened the side hatch of his Phantom, and jumped down onto the ground. As Xyrho's large hooves hit the ground, he made an indent in the fragile concrete below.

As Xyrho waited for Rah'Jesh to disembark from his Phantom, he took the opportunity to look around, and take in the atmosphere. Xyrho looked at the burned out and skeletal remains of the city around him, and part of him wondered if there was a reason for the Humans choosing THIS spot as the meeting point.

---New Harmony – Planet Surface---

Rah'jesh was the first to disembark from the Phantom, followed by a squad of five spec ops operators. Two other operators remained within the Phantom, in case things went south hill.

Rah'jesh: Check the perimeter for any contact. Call in if you find anything. If everything is clear, form a defensive square around The Shipmaster and we'll proceed.

As his Sangheili moved into positions, Rah'jesh placed himself besides Xyrho, nodding firmly at him.

Rah'jesh: I assume you might know the location we're going to. If so, lead the way when they've cleared the perimeter.

Xyrho nodded back at Rah'Jesh, and acknowledged him

Xyrho: Yes, I am fully aware of where we need to go to meet with The Humans and The Brutes.

As Xyrho looked around, and watched as the Spec-Ops fanned out to check the perimeter, he looked at Rah'Jesh with a curious look.

Xyrho: I get the impression that you are very uncertain of this meeting. I get the impression that many are uncertain of this meeting. I see how your Spec-Ops are moving, and I can see a degree of tension in their movements.

Xyrho paused.

Xyrho: I can see tension in your posture, and I can hear it in your voice as well. It is difficult to see and hear, but, years of experience has given me insight into a great many things, and the current state of mind of my fellow Sangheili is one of those things.

Xyrho paused again.

Xyrho: Why do I get the impression that you are VERY uncertain about this entire endeavor?

Rah'jesh kept his focus at the surroundings, but replies after a moment of thought.

Rah'jesh: Because of history and experience, of course, Shipmaster!

The Commander scanned with his eyes through the skeletal remains of the buildings that surrounded the small entourage.

Rah'jesh: Because it's in my nature, my duty to be uncertain of matters that -requires- to be doubted. I did not become a Special Operations Commander for being certain before calculating and thinking the matter thoroughly before being certain.

Rah'jesh looked over his Sangheili, seeing their movements.

Rah'jesh: And we've been fighting these two species that we're about to negotiate with for a very long time. My operators deserve to be dense.

Rah'jesh moved his focus at Xyrho for a brief moment before returning it to the usual scanning.

Rah'jesh: What makes you certain of this endeavour, if I may ask, Shipmaster.

Xyrho: We have a very bitter history with both The Humans and The Brutes.

Xyrho paused for a moment.

Xyrho: To be honest, I am not exactly sure why I am here. Given what has passed between The Brute, The Humans, and our species, it is a very difficult idea to reconcile.

Xyrho scoffed.

Xyrho: However, Can we fault the Humans for unwittingly getting involved in our own civil war, and not knowing which side to fight? Even now, across our space, we are still at war with Sangheili who believe they are the successors to The Covenant. How many Covenant factions are spread across our own space? How many more hide in the furthest reaches of The Galaxy? How many of our own worlds are controlled by power-hungry Sangheili who wish to continue the genocidal war against the Humans?

Xyrho paused.

Xyrho: Part of me believes that, at least with The Humans, we should not be in a situation where we cannot even trust one another...where we default as enemies. We SHOULD be allies. We fought along side Humans to bring down The Covenant. We should be fighting by their side today. Instead, there is distrust on both sides.

Xyrho paused.

Xyrho: And how long must we spill blood in an endless blood feud with The Brutes? How many need to die because of the crimes of a few liars? What do we need to sacrifice to end that war, and what do they need to sacrifice to continue fighting? Do we fight, until we annihilate their species? Glass their worlds? We turned oN The Prophets, because they tried to destroy our species. What would it say about that, if we repay one attempted genocide, with an actual one? Where is the honor in that? Did we not learn from our attempted genocide of The Humans?

Xyrho scoffed.

Xyrho: Perhaps I believe in this...potential alliance...because I believe that, eventually, the bloodshed needs to end. Perhaps there is no honor in peace, and perhaps there is no honor in ending a fight, but, what good is honor when there are more dead than living. What good is honor, when it is built on shifting sands? What good is victory when it could taste almost as bitter as defeat?

Xyrho scoffed.

Xyrho: Two years ago...our fragile alliance with The Humans ended when a remnant of The Covenant, led by our species, continued the fighting. That mistake must be corrected. We have mutual enemies, Ras'Jesh...it is long past time we fight them.

Rah'jesh turned silent for a while, pondering.

Rah'jesh: Maybe you are correct, maybe you are not. Sometimes there are simply too much bad blood, too much for reasoning. Perhaps the answer would be in genocide, or through peace. I do not know, and do not have an answer for it.

Rah'jesh looked over his shoulder, taking a thorough look at their rear before continuing.

Rah'jesh: And as for our mutual enemy? The Trust, was it? Many of the Sangheili united in the face of The Flood, for that was a mutual enemy to all life, absolutely. The Trust is nowhere as dangerous as they were. But for me, they're a priority, I'm of the same mind as you of the matter. They're a threat to the Sangheili, way of life and that is my priority.

Rah'jesh let out a grunt, sniffing the air.

Rah'jesh: I smell the stinking sweat of a brute. We're getting closer.

Xyrho listened to Rah'Jesh's response. Xyrho nodded, but did not give a response.

Xyrho: Keep your eyes open. If we are getting close, then we need to be careful. We cannot risk starting a confrontation before we even have a chance to try and make this work.

Xyrho paused.

Xyrho: Keep your weapon low. We both know how easily Brutes are provoked.

Xyrho took point, as he led Rah'Jesh and his Spec-Ops to the meeting point. As Xyrho, Rah'Jesh, and the Spec-Ops got closer and closer to the desiganted meeting point, the area began to open up, from the narrow corridors of a street, to a large, wide open plaza. It was not soon after this that Xyrho spotted Vernette and Barrabus, along with their entourage.

Xyrho: Rah'Jesh...be mindful of The Spartan and The Brutes. Keep an eye on them...

Rah'jesh eyed the rather open environment, growling low to himself.

Rah'jesh: Good location for an ambush. Rear-Operatives, keep your eyes fixed on the buildings around us. Those at front, keep focus on the said Spartans and Brutes. If something were to occur, this would be the fight of our lives. Let's evade that this day, however.

The Sangheili complied to their leader's orders, scanning the surrounding area with their trained eyes. They kept their weapons down however. It was clearly against their nature in a situation like this, but they had the will to resist it, for now.

Rah'jesh: Let's get this ordeal over with, yes?

The Entourage approaches ever-closer to the company of Brutes and Humans.

Xyrho eventually came to a halt, standing about 10 feet back from where Barrabus and Vernette had stopped. Xyrho glared at his two counter-parts. There was a brief moment of silence, as the two sides measured each other up. As the two sides glared at one another, a very cold breeze rolled in, funneling in from the long street corridors that went from all four sides.

As the wind began to pick up, and the silence became more unbearable, Xyrho finally spoke up.

Xyrho: You bring me here, to this desolate world. For what reason am I here?

Xyrho's voice echoed in the plaza, as it bounced off the remains of the burned out buildings.

Vernette: We brought you here for one very simple reason...Shipmaster...

Vernette paused.

Vernette: We have a mutual problem.

Vernette paused.

Vernette: I think everyone here can appreciate the difficulty that comes with having to deal with internal power struggles. I am very familiar with yours.

Xyrho winced at Vernette.

Vernette: Do not act surprised, Shipmaster. I have been keeping tabs on you, and your Government, for some time. Information is my business, and I excel at it. We will leave it at that...

Xyrho scoffed.

Xyrho: I ask again, Human...why am I here?

Vernette: You are here to speak for your Government. You are here to make a deal; a deal with me...and a deal with The Chieftain. You are here..because I believe that you alone, among your entire race, has the wisdom necessary to make the right decision as far as this matter is concerned.

Vernette paused.

Vernette: Like I said...we have a mutual problem. And that problem...is The Trust.
