Harris continued to take the front of the rest of the mercs, running around cover and firing sporadically as to take the fire off of the rest of the team. He was running low on ammunition, but was doing his best to consolidate what he had. Grace on the other hand, had stayed with Uli and provided covering fire for whenever he needed it. She was managing to keep up a biotic field to hold off any thing that got too close, and she could easily take out any merc that got too close.
Gates was still sitting in the back, taking his sweet time on any merc who showed his face. He was still conversing with Linda on the Newcastle.
Linda: It's not that I don't trust Cerberus, it's that I don't trust the Quarians. I mean, who does?
Gates chuckled as he glanced at Uli, who was being protected by one of his very own soldiers.
Gates: Not many people do Vice-Admiral, but keep in mind, you still don't trust me, remember?
Gates could hear Linda laugh loudly on her side. He took a shot at a merc who broke cover, and scored a headshot.
Linda: If the Gates have proven anything, it's their loyalty to humanity and their trustworthiness. You're father taught me that.
Gates took a deep breath and fired another shot, he took cover to reload.
Gates: My father didn't have a lot of time to teach me much. I'm glad he taught others.
Linda: We met when I was very young, when the war was still going on. I was the same age as you, he saved me, he saved my family, and he showed me true courage, true loyalty. You're a lot like him...in both looks and mannerisms. That is why I trust you. You know what must be done.
Gates shook his head as he reloaded.
Gates: The Operative has a Turian ally, we're working with a Quarian and an Asari...this is definitely not the time or place to start an alien-human war.
Gates peaked over cover and then hid once more.
Gates: They're after a relic of some sort, but it can't just be a "relic" if the Quarians are abandoning part of their fleet to get it back. It's something much more than that.
Linda: I agree, whole-heartedly. We need to know what they're after, and if it comes down to it, we need to take it.
Gates shook his head.
Gates: Or we need to get Cerberus to have it, and we need to finally take our positions with them.
There was a deep breath on Linda's side.
Linda: Cerberus knows of both Gates' and Swansons' history with Cerberus, and they know we are Cerberus-sympathizers, but abandoning our posts as members of the Alliance military?
Gates: Is what we need to do if we are to ever find out what is going on, if we are to ever help humanity. My father was a high-ranking officer, this I know, and I think it is time I took my place among them.
Gates peeked over cover and took a shot at another merc, killing him.
Gates: We will speak when this over. Keep up defenses, get security ready in case of any boarding parties, and find out where they are headed, BUT do not follow.
Linda: Roger that, Commander. Swanson out.
