LOL...you guys really don't get this stuff.
Alright, I have spent a good three years fixing and repairing Xbox 360s (not to mention my years of experiences as a Computer scientist) and I have come to learn bit about these consoles and what makes them tick, and what kills them.
So...you really think combining two chips into one reduces stress and increases longevity? That is a very flawed assumption.
Consider two cases. Jasper 360 and Valhalla 360.
Jasper 360 has two chips (CPU and GPU)
Valhalla 360 has once chip combining both CPU and GPU...we will call this a Harmonized Processing Unit for fun and simplicity (HPU)
So I have a friend who bought a new Valhalla 360 and I asked him to bring it over to my house for a bit of experimentation. We stole some hightech thermometers from the lab at school and we decided to compared my Jasper 360 to his Xbox 360 slim. These were the results
Jasper 360 CPU Heatsink temperature: 52 degrees C
Valhalla 360 Heatsink Temperature 50 degrees C
So the Valhalla looks like it produces less heat at 50 degrees as opposed to the CPU/GPU both only going at 52 C.
So on paper the Valhalla 360 is better temperature wise. But remember...this is science...not magic. These chips have electricity and shit flowing through them, stress kills!
consider this analogy
Assume you have a single road (road 1) with 500 cars on it at a time. and a separate set of two roads (road 2), with 250 cars on each subsequent road. Which road set will degrade faster?
If you said the road with 500 cars, you would be correct.
Now, put this into perspective.
The HPU combines two chips, and thus combines the amount of stress needed to operate, as opposed to two equally well designed chips, splitting the workload.
When you look at the fundamentals, a single chip design is flawed. Although you get a slight reduction on heat on the Valhalla 360, you double the amount of stress the chip is under, increasing the chance of hardware failure. As opposed to the Jasper 360 which might produce a total of 4 degreees more direct temeperature (and quite a bit more ambiant temperature, which can be managed by the fan) it doesn't alter the fact that the standard operating temperature for a normal CPU or GPU is 60 degrees.
So you can go with proven, less stressful technology with the Jaspers
Or you can go with untested, fault, flawed technology with the Valhallas
