As Fireteam Harmony's Pelican landed in the King Raven hanger bay, Burke, two medics, and a detachment of Marines were standing by to take Hoffman into custody. Burke watched as Fireteam Harmony dragged Hoffman off the Pelican. Burke had a grin on his face, as he took great satisfaction from a Trust Operative being in the custody of ONI.
Burke: Admiral Hoffman...this is an unpleasant surprise. And before you try...don't even bother with the deception...I took the liberty of getting your service record.
Burke was holding a tablet in his hand. He turned it around, and showed Hoffman's UNSC service record.
Hoffman glared at Burke.
Burke: I have been looking forward to meeting you. After everthing Commander Vernette told me...I was just dying to get the chance. You have a lot to answer for Hoffman. Your friends have a lot to answer for as well...but we will get to them after we are done with you.
Hoffman:: Hardly.
Hoffman paused.
Hoffman: Do you honestly think you are any match for The Trust? Do you honestly think that this PATHETIC military, as it stands, could ever hope to route The Trust?
Burke: Based on the most recent events...I would say yes! We are more than a match for The Trust.
Burke laughed.
Burke: However...I am not here to argue that. I am here to make sure that you can actually walk whenever we need to drag your sorry ass out of a holding cell for interrogation purposes.
Burke then looked at Fireteam harmony, and gave them a nod, indicating that he wanted them to release Hoffman. As Fireteam Harmony released Hoffman, the Marines that were with Burke grabbed him.
Burke: Take Hoffman to the holding cells. Get his leg patched up...and extensively search him and confiscate everything from his person if it has not been done so already.
Burke glared at Hoffman, as he reached for his neck, and began to pull his rank insignia right off his Uniform.
Burke: You have lost the priblage to wear these...
Burke then grabbed the medals that were pinned to Hoffman's jacket, as he pulled them off as well.
Burke: You have lost the right to show these...
Burke scoffed at Hoffman.
Burke: You will no longer enjoy the authority or the respect that came with your rank, as you no longer have it in my opinion!
Burke paused.
Burke: Hoffman...you are an embarrassment to the military and a disgrace to the uniform!
Burke then looked at the Marines, and then nodded.
Burke: Get this prick out of my sight.
The marines nodded, as they dragged Hoffman off, leaving the hanger bay in very short order. Once Hoffman was gone, Burke gave an audible sigh, as he looked at Hoffman's rank insignia. Burke didn;t look at harmony, but he was speaking to them.
Burke: What a terrible waste. There are officers who deserve to wear these. I serve with some of them and I am on a first name basis with the rest.
Burke then turned to look at Fireteam Harmony.
Burke: Despite that...excellent work on extracting Hoffman. Unlike him...the four of you are actually a credit to the service.
Meanwhile:
Tye stood at the threshold of the Pelican's cockpit, simply watching as the Pilot flew the Pelican back to The King Raven. Tye began to go over everything in his head, thinking back on all the small details of the battle. It was at this point that Tye really began to think about his engagement with Jacob. The more he thought about it, the more and more it made less and less sense. Tye could not figure out why Jacob went through the trouble of attacking him, only to save him from falling out the window.
Tyber: What the hell happened there?
Tye was very confused by the whole turn of events. He was all but convinced that Jacob was a traitor, but his mind was dwelling on that single moment, and he couldn't shake it.
Tyber: Why did he save me? What the hell was the point of that!?
Tye could find no rational explanation for Jacob's unexplainable actions.
Tyber: Was it guilt? Was it uncertainty in his choices? Was there still a glimmer of loyalty?
Tye knew damn well that it was not impossible to feel some degree of uncertainty with the activities of The Trust. Perhaps Jacob had always played with the idea of joining them, but quickly realized he bit off more than he could chew. Perhaps it was something else?
Tyber: Jacob is guilty of no more than I am. The only difference was that I had the benefit of obscurity and secrecy with my treachery.
As much as Tye was disgusted with the prospect of anyone joining The Tryst...he knew deep down inside that if he was given the chance at redemption...than it was his moral obligation to pay that chance forward and give it to someone else. At the very least...Jacob deserved a chance to redeem himself...he deserved the same chance that Tye had.
Tyber: Perhaps I have to speak up. I should try and vouch for Jacob. As much as I hate The Trust...I have to give Jacob a chance to redeem himself.
Tye sighed, as he heard the Pelican pilot request docking clearance from The King Raven. Tye then heard a voice coming in through the comm system.
King Raven Docking Control: Docking clearance granted in hanger bay 1. Cut engines to half and begin docking sequence.
Meanwhile:
Xyrho was finally able to rendezvous with Vhat a good distance away from The Apex Applied Research Building. Xyrho took notice of the fact that Furium was gone.
Xyrho: Vhat? Where is our extraction!?
