Dickerson: "Aft shields down to 65%. The Klingon Flagship is now behind us."
th'Zarath watched the fleet icons move and form a giant mass of icons. Above the viewscreen th'Zarath had a direct line of sight at the battle around the Heart of the Aenar. The ship rumbled again as the Ven'tek fired another anti-proton barrage at the Aenar.
Dickerson: "Sir, I've identified the Klingon flagship's weapons. They're anti-proton energy weapons."
th'Zarath and sh'Kori both were troubled by this development as the Aenar took another aft barrage.
Dickerson: "Aft shields down to 51%. Sir, what should we do?"
th'Zarath then got an idea.
th'Zarath: "th'Zarath to Engineering."
Chief Engineer: "Go ahead, Admiral."
th'Zarath: "Get ready to flood our shields with protons. If I'm right, the momentary burst should provide us with a temporary anti-proton resistance boost and neutralize their effectiveness."
Chief Engineer: "Admiral, in order to burst the shields with that much protons, we'd need to direct ALL power into the deflector array. We could very well even burn out the deflector, or worse, the collision of the two could cause intense annihilation causing us to explode. I strongly recommend that, Sir."
The Heart of the Aenar shook a little harder than the previous times they were hit.
th'Zarath: "Feel that? Each time we get hit, is a closer Engineering gets blown to smitherines. I understand the risks, just do it."
The Chief Engineer sighed over the comm.
C. Engineer: "Yes, Admiral, standby."
A few moments passed.
C. Engineer: "Beginning shield burst."
Everyone on the bridge began to stop what they were doing. They knew either th'Zarath was right and got lucky, or the Chief Engineer was right and th'Zarath was about to send them to their deaths. Suddenly all power on the Heart of the Aenar went out. No emergency lights came on or redundant systems, the whole ship was dark. Everyone watched as a Galaxy-class ship was blown up nearby, illuminating the bridge.
There was a loud noise that resembled a large weapon firing followed by a blue light as everyone watched as the shields of the Aenar absorbed the proton radiation. A second later the power on the Aenar came back on and systems were restoring.
th'Zarath: "Bring us back to red alert. Status?"
Dickerson: "The deflector is stable for now. Who knows what will happen if they fire on us."
th'Zarath: "Open a channel to the Klingon flagship."
th'Zarath felt it was time for his gamble.
th'Zarath: "Attention Klingon Flagship, as you may have no doubt detected, our shields with a large amount of protons. If you do not cease fire, you may destroy us and everyone in the immediate vicinity, including yourselves. As you are not Klingon, I doubt you share the same warrior mentality as your allies about an honorable death."
