"They don't like us."
"Huh?" Ryan returned from his mesmerized state. There was a black sedan with tinted windows that he was staring at for a good 15 minutes.
Micheal spoke up, "I said, they don't like us, the civilians."
Ryan replied, but continued to stare at the sedan, "I think that they are just wondering what is going on, not that they don't like us. I mean, why would they not like us? Things have been a lot better since the higher ups put boots on the ground here. I mean, look at that guy over there."
Ryan pointed to a random civilian with a datapad in his hand. "That's a normal colonist, not some rich guy. I have never seen a colony that is as technologically advanced as this one, as backwater we may be."
"Well, I don't disagree with you on that. Though, I don't know if it's just me, or if I've actually counted 15 people sneer at me as they were passing by."
"Maybe you provoked them or some-"
Micheal cut Ryan off, "No, I wasn't doing anything. My weapon is slung, my ballistic goggles are polarized so they can't fucking read any expression I have, and I've been standing in this exact spot for 30 minutes now.
No, there's something going on around here."
Ryan began to tune Micheal out, "Your fault for jinxing it."
Ryan unloaded the magazine from his SMG and examined it. The magazine was still fresh, but he decided to swap it out. He dropped the magazine into his waste pouch and pulled a new one from his chest. The magazine slotted in with a satisfying click. When Ryan looked back up, the sedan abruptly accelerated away.
Ryan grunted in deep thought.
"What, speeding's grounds for being a spy now?" Micheal heartily laughed.
Having already tuned Micheal out, Ryan thought to himself. Something is up with that guy.
