Bravo Company of the Aurigae IV Garrison began their march into the colony at the crack of dawn the next day. The footsteps of the columns of marines sounded noticeably, and civilians in the streets looked unto the marines as they walked to their garrison within the colony. As he was moving along, Ryan could hear hushed whispers among the civilian populace.
He turned to Micheal, "These civilians aren't as stupid as a lot of the guys make them out to be."
"Hm?"
Ryan looked out to the civilians around them once more. "They know something is up."
"So?"
"They're uneasy; they want to know what's up."
Micheal shrugged, "I don't think it's our place to tell them. Command does things for good reason."
"I sure hope so."
----- several minutes later -----
Bravo Company arrived at the garrison, which at the moment was empty. The company stopped just in front of the entrance and Ryan was called up front. "Dusk! Take your fireteam and make sure the area ahead is clear!"
"On our way, Skipper!" Ryan moved into the compound with his team behind him. "Alright, first we're going to clear the outside area; check for landmines and IED's. Iceman, Stopper, scan for mines and clear them out. Mike, we're going to look for any IED's. We'll try to disarm them, but we'll detonate them if we have to. Get a move on marines."
Stopper pulled out his acoustic mine detector and began scanning for land mines. Beside him, Iceman began stringing his line charge. On the other side, Ryan and Micheal made sure to tread on paved surfaces only as they searched for any possible IED's.
A voice crackled through the COM's, "Iceman here, there's a dirt section about 50 yards wide in every direction and surrounded on the outside by chain fences. It's chock full of mines. Detonating in ten. Over." Approximately ten seconds later, a series of explosion thundered in the air. Iceman's voice crackled into the COM again.
"Mines cleared. Break. Break. We've cleared all areas with possible landmines. How copy? Over."
"Solid copy, Iceman. Regroup at the front entrance. How copy? Over."
"Solid copy, Dusk. Moving now. Out."
Ryan switched the frequencies on his COM's. "Almighty, this is Alpha 2-6. The area is clear, moving to clear the building. Over."
"Roger that 2-6, company's moving in. Out."
Ryan switched his COM's back to the local frequencies. By this time, Iceman and Stopper had already arrived at the front entrance with Ryan and Micheal and stacked up opposite to them.
Ryan flipped the flashlight on his shotgun on. "Mike, breaching charge."
Micheal silently attached a charge to the door's locks. Before moving back into position, he looked to Ryan, who nodded an affirmative.
Ryan's grip on his weapon tightened. "Do it."
Micheal detonated the charge, and the door, its locked destroyed, slid open. Ryan moved in first. The building, being largely abandoned, was completely unlit. Carefully maneuvering through the building, Ryan's fireteam scanned the halls and rooms for and traps or any other hazards. After several minutes, they found the power generator, which had just been switch off since the building's abandonment.
Ryan thought about the building previous occupants. How nice of them. Lights all over the complex sprung to life when Ryan hit the reactivation switch for the generator. No longer needing independent light sources, the fireteam switched off their flashlights and moved on.
After a thorough sweep of the building, Ryan declared it cleared and Bravo Company began settling in.
