in 2006, Pluto was officially, named a Dwarf planet.

Should it really?

While this has been up to debate for a very long time.

And there have been many protests.

And Pluto is apparently everyone's favorite planet

(Mars ftw)

I'm getting off topic, anyways, the thought came to mind when today when I saw this picture.

And I"m also probing Pluto in Me2

I thought to myself, why exactly is Pluto, not a planet.

Well apparently, here's why.

To be a planet, you must follow 3 rules.

1. You must have a spherical shape (Rules out asteroids)

2. You must orbit the sun (rules out moons)

3. It must have an "eliptical" orbit path.

Now call me cranky, but I'm a bit cranky over the fact as to why Pluto has been dismissed as a planet, only to be demoted to a Dwarf planet.

Pluto follows both of the first rules, but in the 3rd rule, it becomes a bit iffy.

But to be fair, it is an orbit, just not a straight one.

I mean c'mon, Uranus is tipped on it's side, and it's still a planet.

And also, if Pluto was a planet, we'd probably have to add many other "dwarf" planets.

But still, It's been 4 years since that decision was made, and I"m apparently still P.Oed

What do you think, is that final rule enough to dismiss Pluto as a planet? But instead, a Dwarf planet?

Pluto is now categorized as a dwarf planet because there are a ton of objects around the size of Pluto orbiting the sun in an area called the Kuiper belt. The choice was either to create a new category of planet or add a bunch of planets to original list of 9.

It appears that two of those (other than Pluto) pictured have moons.

That being said, I just barely remember this stuff from my astronomy I class that I took a while back.

Still, the universe is very expansive. yeah we'd have to add some planets but think.

Technology is advancing very quickly.

This is a ginormous galaxy, I mean, fucking ginormous.I mean, I'm surprised our solar system doesn't have even More planets!

There are more planets, they are called dwarf planets.

There are 8 planets in our solar system, and like 94823094809890 objects in the kuiper belt.

I did not say that there are 8 planets and then every other object is a dwarf planet, but rather, objects plutoish sized are dwarf planets.

It is better than just calling it something like 'kuiper belt object.'

EDIT:And there have been a ton of planets found outside of the solar system entirely.
