Okay, we all have heard the hype about Infinite, right? It's won over eighty awards since it's released according to my sources. The game's very, very hyped. More so than a five year old on speed. But, is the hype well-founded...
BioShock Infinite is a game by 2K and Irrational Games, powered by the Unreal Engine used in DmC - Devil May Cry. It is a first-person shooter action-adventure game where you take control of Booker DeWitt, a veteran of The Battle of Wounded Knee and the Boxer Rebellion. He owes a mass amount of debt and must repay it in the form of a girl - Who happens to be inside a giant tower inside a flying city. Sounds great, right? Well... Let's just say the story may or may not mindfuck you.
Gameplay is absolutely solid. It's a challenging, engaging game with a lot to offer. If you go through the trouble of finding hidden keys and other trinkets, you are handsomely rewarded with health, shield, or salts upgrades. Along with standard 1912 weaponry, you can have vigors - drinks that give you special powers such as throwing fireballs or making enemies... Allies. You also have a weapon called a Skyhook, used to traverse freight hooks and skylines, which you can combat enemies on by firing your weapons, or jumping down and striking with a devastating one-hit-kill... Usually. There are also heavy-hitter enemies, such as the enraged, fireball-throwing, kamikaze... Uh, becoming... Fireman. Or the Motorized Patriot, a robot with a powerful crank-powered Gatling gun.
Story is well-done, and engaging. It's set in 1912, it's very... Ah, psychedelic, but it shows DeWitt's dark past and develops a wonderful relationship with Elizabeth. You can make choices along the way the affect the story later on via snowball effect, and you will perform various, rather insane if you ask me... Tasks, such as KILL, KILL, KILL, or rescue your friend Elizabeth. Or just kill. There are two factions-- The Racist Founders, who have control of the city at the beginning half of the game, and the Vox Populi, a band of multiple races that are fascist, however. You are caught in the middle of the civil war between the two of all things, and you must fight your way through both factions. It's rather strange.
Overall, the game us polished, well done, and downright fun to play. I'd give it a score of 9/10, it still has some glitches to deal with, and it can be TOO difficult in areas, which subtracts from it's score. But, as I said, VERY well done game.
