Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides By: Hells Sniper Super Member First off. There may be spoilers Ahead. Spoilers are marked by Italic text and warnings. Before I begin...I will talk about my pre-view thoughts and the other three movies. Now, I went into this movie with a few opinions... I was told it was going to be predictable It got 34% rotten and 77% good on Rotten Tomatoes (yeah, the math makes NO sense? - check out their website for the scoring) The first two pirates were pretty awesome, but At World's End...made me mad. I was pumped for this movie. Now, the first two Pirate Movies...as in The Black Pearl and Dead Man's Chest were good, they were not disappointing and made a good entrance. At World's End wasn't nearly as good as the first two in my opinion. I mean...the whole scene with the ships and the whirlpool...bleh. And the whole Davy Jones' story and that crap...I hated it. Now! Onto the Review! The Content: Characters Plot Set Design/Action Scenes Music Summary I need to start with the Characters first so you all have an idea of where I am coming from. These are the main characters, thus, I am only focuses on main aspects of the film. We have: 1. Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) - The main character of the story. He is...sarcastic, comical, free spirit, charismatic, and in a way, wise. Captain Sparrow is the movie, to me, he makes it. Johnny Depp does a wonderful job and gets very into the character where you think...this guy could have been real...and epic. 2. Angelica (Penelope Cruz) - Hot. But, seriously, her mission is to get her father, Blackbeard to the Fountain of Youth before he dies. 3. Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) - Barbossa, pirate, cunning, and a secondary character in the movie. Barbossa can have funny comments through the movie, but is not as developed as a character like Jack Sparrow. 4. Blackbeard (Ian McShane) - Blackbeard's first appearance in the Pirate movies, his actor portrays him wonderfully. He is aggressive, cruel, merciful, and overall, a douche. 5. Gibbs (Kevin McNally) - Gibbs is a funny guy and is more of a supporting character than one with a real story. Although, in the beginning he does put on a good act. And does something..dramatic. (it's a spoiler what he does...so I won't say it) 9/10 - Character Development was good, although there were a few minor characters that didn't need to be there. The Plot. The whole basis of this movie was to find the Fountain of Youth, that thing that grants eternal life. It had a solid story, with a twist or two inside of it. The "romance" between Sparrow and Angelica is perfectly balanced with the action and other details of the movie. It's quite funny, too, adding another great aspect. Angelica, wants her father, to get to the Fountain of Youth, drink it, and live forever. She pretty much uses Jack to get there. Barbossa's mission is to get there for the "crown," England, although, he wants some revenge on a specific person, pretty much screwing England over. *SPOILER* Gibbs is the supporting actor for Barbossa, where, he steals the map to the Fountain from Jack, memorizes it, then burns it, forcing Barbossa to bring him along and survive the trip to the gallows. *END SPOILER* Blackbeard is just a greedy bastard, and that comes apparent throughout the film, while Angelica and even Captain Jack Sparrow have compassion and kindness. The plot is solid as I stated before, and it's pretty well thought out and developed as you go along. 10/10 - Solid and well thought out plot Set Design/Action Scenes. I have no real complaints with the sets, sets are sets. These were detailed, and I'm pretty sure they filmed IN the jungles of Hawaii, adding a real feel to the movie. The action scenes were great, there were only a few, but my God, they were...breathtaking. The Mermaid Scene to the final fight scene, it was awesome, but at the same time funny (in some regard). They did a good job with the sword fights and they did not have one ship-to-ship battle. I was pretty happy about that because this movie wasn't focused on big battles, but "skirmishes." These skirmishes were great. It was the original Pirates stuff, and even though people say they needed something new. Original is the best. 10/10 - Original Pirates. MUSIC. The soundtrack for this movie was absolutely superb. I'm sure I've shown almost everyone the Epic music youtube video. THEY HAD ORCHESTRA MUSIC. I was so happy when I heard that. While watching the movie, and having that music in the background, it was awesome. And even besides that, the music in general was perfect for the scene they had going. 10/10 - YEAH. I loved it. Summary. Overall the movie was very good in my opinion. Someone said that the movie was predictable. Maybe four times, two of which were very minor sequences in the film, while the other two, you knew was going to happen when they started talking about it. I didn't think that really affected my outlook on the movie. There were even a few surprises in there! Towards the end, especially, it was a constantly changing film, but at small parts, you could see what one person was going to do. The ending was both funny, serious, and left a great spot open for another movie. Although, there probably isn't a need, Pirates will never die out...(unless ninja's get involved). It was the fourth and probably the second greatest installment in the pirate series. 9/10 - A BIT Predictable. Overall - Extremely well thought out.
