Advance Wars Game Review

Advance Wars is a turn-based strategy game developed by Intelligent Systems. Advance Wars' first debut was on September 10, 2001. The release in Japan and other country was delayed due to the events of 911. But that didn't stop the game from becoming very popular.

In the first installment of the game, the story placed you in the shoes of Orange Star's new advised: you. Upon first starting the game, you are asked to enter a name, like Pokemon. As the first and only Orange Star Adviser, you travel the word chasing down Blue Moon military forces that had invaded Orange Star. The objective quickly changes when three commanding officers, one from Green Earth, one from Blue Moon, and one from Yellow Comet, discover the person who is responsible for the apparent attacks on all four Worlds War Nations. In the last mission, the man is reveal to be Sturm. Andy and two other CO's battle Sturm and defeat him.

Advance Wars game play is like chess on drugs with explosives strapped to its chest. There are 19 different units in Advance Wars, every single one of them with unique abilities and strengths. Infantry, although very weak, have the important ability to capture properties. Recons are only effective against infantry, but provides a wide field of vision in Fog of War situations. If bases are included in a map, the player can capture the base and gain the ability to deploy more units. There are even 11 different CO's, all of which have different strengths and weaknesses, that you can play as. There are many possibles in Advance Wars, with its many elements. There's nothing special about the music, just adds that little thing to the game so that it's not dull. Re-playability is an issue though. After many runs against the computer, it gets very boring. That doesn't mean Advance Wars lost it popularity. Even now the Advance Wars community is very alive. People have made comics, videos, and even a website where people can share custom Advance Wars maps, rate them, and comment about them. With Advance War's second installment, Advance Wars 2:Black Hole Rising, they added a great deal of thing. These include one new unit, 2 new terrain, 1 new property, and 7 new CO's. All of which expand the already seemingly infinite possibilities that is Advance Wars. Advance Wars' third installment added even more things. In all, there are 15 new elements of which can be encountered.

Graphics is not bad, but not realistic good. The graphics are good enough that so that you can tell what is what.

All in all, Advance Wars isn't a bad game, but it's not so good that is earns an "As Famous as Call of Duty/Halo" badge. Game play is very good with a not so good replay value as far as the campaign goes. The storyline is okay, and serves more to hone the skills of a player to prepare them for a person vs person game rather than tell a story. Multiplayer is top notch, and requires the player to actually think, like chess, but better. Graphics isn't bad either.

Game play: 5/5
Storyline: 3/5
Replay value: 2/5
Multiplayer : 5/5
Graphics: 4/5

19/25 = 76%

Not a good game if you look at the numbers, but guaranteed you will like the game when you play it.
