Fallout 3 Game Review

Overview

Fallout 3 is a first or third person role playing game where you complete quests and level up. This may seem like a bland description but Fallout 3 really breaks the mold. Using stunning graphics and pushing game play to its limits. Read on to learn more about this fantastic game and what I think of it.

Part one: Story

The first thing I going to review is the story. The basic idea is that you're a nineteen year old who just escaped a nuclear bomb shelter called "the vault". The reason you left was to find your father who exited before you. When you exit the vault the protagonist sees a barren wasteland devastated by war. The player goes to a small town to find information on his father’s location. That's all I'll tell you about the story for now. This story has a pretty solid base. The story is so solid because it presents itself in such a way where you cannot predict the next twist or turn. I understand some people might hate this type of story but I like it! Now let’s review the originality. Even though Fallout 3 is a sequel it brings originality into the story and seems like it’s just another stand alone game.

Total score: 9/10

Part two: Skills

The skills in fallout 3 are pretty inventive, bellow like if I’m reviewing weapons I’ll individually review them.

Speech: Speech is a very useful skill when talking to a character. Speech can do a lot of things from getting a better reward or getting information maybe even a pass code. Speech is highly recommended.

Barter: Barter helps you sell items for more and buy them for less, a good skill to have but not the best skill. I recommend it though.

Big guns: Big guns help you deal more damage to enemies why big weapons like the mini gun or flamer for example, personally I don’t use big guns because Frankly big guns are very heavy and are generally not worth it.

Energy weapons: energy weapons is a pretty good skill to have especially later in the game where you be finding laser rifle and such. Only partially recommended though.

Explosives: I personally don't use explosives at all, it’s good to have an explosives skill of 25 though for the start of the game. Not recommended.

Lockpick: Lockpick is an amazing skill because it is vital for most of the game. You use lock pick to break into houses, pick safes, and pick ammo boxes and generally anything with a lock. Max this out as fast as you can.

Medicine: Medicine is only good for some of the quests in the game. Sure it increases the potency of drugs but I never use those anyway. Not really recommended.

Melee Weapons: Melee weapons is an decent skill to get, but I seem to get by fine without using it much. My friends maxed it out and find it a great skill, I think this skill is good also but not necessary. I recommend this skill.

Repair: Repair is not a very useful skill in my opinion. Repair is used to repair item and disarm traps, but you can just pay a merchant to repair your weapons and traps are not that bad.

Science: Science is not a very good skill, sure you can hack computers but it takes so long to get it right! Science is not recommended.

Small guns: Small guns like melee is good but not necessary, small guns represent almost every gun. This skill is only partially recommended.

Unarmed: I've never used unarmed, why punch them when I can shoot them in the face? This skill is not recommended unless you want an extra challenge.

Sneak: Sneak is a good skill if you are going to be stealing things a lot, it makes you less easy to detect unless they are looking at you.

Total score: 8/10

Part Three Weapons

In this section I am not going to be reviewing every single weapon, I will only review the main types of weapons.

Pistols: The pistols can be very good with a high small guns perk. Pistols are very light but aren’t the most damaging. You start of the game with one of them though so I can understand focusing on Pistols at the start of the game. Pistols are recommended because they are very balanced weapons.

Assault rifles: Assault rifles are very useful especially the Chinese assault rifle, they may be inaccurate but they do very high damage and it’s easy to find ammo for them. If you have a high small guns skill you can mow down most enemies with them. Assault rifle are recommended for taking down bigger enemies like super mutants.

Rifles: Rifles are high accuracy high damage weapons but they don't have high durability and it’s difficult to find ammo for them. They can be a good backup weapon. Rifles are better for smaller targets and farther away targets

Shotguns: Shotguns aren’t that great weapons because they are solely close range and you aren’t always going to be up in the enemies face. Shotguns aren’t very good unless you’re going through a super mutant camp in a building or something where there are a lot of enemies in a short space.

Melee weapons: melee weapons are very useful if you make the shishkebab not all of them are good though. Melee weapons should always be carried. Melee weapons can be a very good substitute for a shotgun in close quarters.

Missile launchers: Missile launchers are heavy slow firing and barley can ever find ammo for them. Missile launchers are not recommended. I can think of only one use for them when trying my hardest; to take down super mutant behemoths.

Total score: 7/10

Total score Fallout 3: 24/30
Fallout 3 is a great game, I recommend it to any fan of shooters or role playing games. Fallout 3 is the best role playing game I have ever played, defiantly a buy.
