M392 Designated Marksman Rifle - ONI Variant
UNSC Variant
The M392 Designated Marksman Rifle, also known as the DMR for short, is an alternative, and less commonly used marksman rifle for UNSC personnel. While this weapon was once the standard for medium to long range weaponry in the UNSC, it was replaced by the BR55 Battle Rifle. This is not to say that the BR55 was superior to the M392 Designated Marksman Rifle, it was easier to handle and more versatile. However, the M392 Designated Marksman Rifle is still considered to be harder hitting of the two, consistently beating the BR55 Battle Rifle in damage output tests. Despite being replaced, this weapon is still considered to be a reliable and durable weapon, and, as such, is still used by a select number of service personnel, most of which are in the UNSC Army.
The weapon comes equipped with a EVOS-D optic scope, capable of 3x magnification and it comes equipped with a left and right sided ejection port, so the weapon can be used comfortably by left and right handed people. The biggest drawback of the DRM is, ironically, the recoil and the kickback. Due to the high muzzle velocity, a rapid discharge of the weapon will begin to severely hinder accuracy and stability. It is advised that shots be paced out and to maintain the accuracy of shots. The DRM is highly effective against shielded opponents, and absolutely deadly against unshielded opponents. A well placed DMR operator can neutralize an entire platoon of unshielded foes with incredible ease.
ONI Variant
The M392 Designated Marksman Rifle - ONI Variant is the standard marksman rifle that has been designated exclusively for ONI personnel. The weapon sports a semi-matte black and navy blue finish to accent the aesthetics of the typically covert operations undertaken by ONI. ONI has managed to upgrade several functional areas of the M392 Designated Marksman Rifle, including clip size, muzzle velocity, and stability, to the point that many of the functional limitations of the UNSC counter-part are no longer an issue. ONI Agents who specialize in the use of the M392 Designated Marksman Rifle are considered to be among the most lethal Agents in ONI, unparalleled in their body count and success rate.
Director Vernette's Personal Notes
A very deadly weapon in the hands of a marksman. This is not the Battle Rifle we are talking about. The DMR hits harder, faster, and more precise than a Battle Rifle. The recoil on this gun is enough to make any green put it down in fear of the gun flying out of their hands. If you are an expert in controlling the DMR and lining up headshots...you are a force to be reckoned with. ONI invested a lot of time and effort into upgrading this weapon, and it has paid off. The number of times I have seen Agents operate in the field with nothing but a DMR in hand, only to turn around and slaughter a disproportionate number of enemies has been staggering. The last thing any wants is to cross an ONI Agent that uses a DMR.
That being said, I still prefer the Battle Rifle though. It is easier to handle in my honest opinion.
