I got the idea for making a story from Mike, so yeah. This is my "mystery story" project for English, which never saw chapter 3. I hope to extend it here. This is loosely based on the Stephen King book "Needfull Things". I'll be adding daily.

*Just a note, the numbers during the chapters that seperate text are called subchapters. Stephen King uses them, and I like the idea.

Chapter 1: The Building and the Landlord

1

Over the hills and far away, from my standpoint at least, there lies a quiet little town in the heart of Maine called Castle Rock. With a population of a few thousand, it is by no means a big city. Let us drift towards this small but bustling town, in search of a certain building. This particular building has been said to be haunted, although by what no one knows. They think this because no buisness located here has ever been successful. What's this? It appears some fellow has purchased this building. It's to be a shop named "Something For Everyone". It opens thursday apparently. Well, let's leave this main street in search of one particular man...

Paul Chambers is sitting at his desk, doing nothing in particular. A man of slightly over the average height, he's an ordinary small town police officer. Slow day, he thinks Almost over though, that's something to be grateful for. Just as he leans back in his chair, his office door is thrown open with such force that it bounces off the wall and almost closes itself when it is stopped by the newest addition to this story. This 6-foot-8 behemoth is Chief of Police Ian Jaffords.
"Paul," he says, "Follow me." Paul gets up and follows his chief into his office. Jaffords sits in the chair behind his desk, props his elbows on the desk and interlocks his fingers.
"Sir?" Paul inquires.
"Sit." Ian says and motions to the chair. Paul did as he was bid and was about to speak when Ian sighed. It was a tired sigh. A sigh you might use after sitting down after some hard labour, only to find out you forgot something. Paul wondered what could make his boss that tired, it had been, after all, a slow and quiet day.
"Five days in a row I have had a minimum of fifteen calls a a day. All from people who claim they would have bought that building. They complain to me because they don't like that someone from out of town bought it. Yet the building had been empty for some months before hand."
"Sir, if I may ask, what relevance does this have?"
"You know the landlord of the place?" Ian asked
"Of course, Todd Carlson. Everyone knows him."
"Yes. I just got a call from his wife saying he's gone missing."
"Shit...... But he owns a good deal of the town, what're we gonna do?"
"We're gonna find him," Ian replied dryly, "and fast."

Leeland Gaunt, the owner and proprietor of Something For Everyone, is standing behind the window behind the display case in the front window. He's a very tall man with long and crooked fingers. His shoulder-length snowy white hair is thin, with not a speck of dandruff in it. He stands with his hands clasped behind his back, watching the morning trafic with a knowing look in his eyes.
Soon he thinks yes, very soon. A muffled thump and cry could be heard from the basement
