The Halo Trilogy
Novels vs. Games
Extended Discussion - Hells Sniper

To begin, this discussion will consist of all three Halo Novels and all three Halo games:
vs. (All Halo Games)

Another Note that I would like to say before I begin this, I am an avid fan of Halo, I have played every game, read up on them on wiki, and now have even started the books. I loved the games, they were all great. When I started to read the books, they were so intense, and...awesome. I finished all within a week of each other, so yes. I am an avid fan, and I LOVE the books and games.

The books are awesome, - The Fall of Reach not only covers the back story of the Spartans, but many of their first missions. The Flood - Halo...and First Strike..that's a whole other story. The books are superb and each one is written greater than the last. Books and writers are as follows, and are in chronological order:

Halo: The Fall of Reach - Eric Nylud
Halo: The Flood - William C. Dietz
Halo: First Strike - Eric Nylud

The reason for this discussion is that the games, (mainly Reach) contradict the books in many ways.

*Once again, another note...there WILL be Spoilers. I want to make this clear to everyone. SPOILERS ARE AHEAD. PLEASE DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED THE HALO FRANCHISE GAMES..or are interested in reading the books*

Okay...to begin this discussion, we can talk with the first book, The Fall of Reach. The FoR goes in depth with the SPARTAN training, how Dr. Halsey selected each Spartan, and it talks about how the Spartans became a family, how they became augmented, and how many died in the process. It's really a great book and I recommend it to anyone here; Again, please stop reading if you are interested in the book, but anyway.... The Fall of Reach's ending is very contradicting to the game Halo: Reach. As most of you know Reach's ending has Noble Six delivering Cortana to the Pillar of Autumn and escaping, Well, in the book, this never happened.

You see, the Master Chief and his Spartans were going to be sent on a mission to capture a high-ranking prophet, and hold it hostage, while the UNSC tried to negotiate a peace treaty. This was ultimately stopped, due to the impending invasion of Reach. When Reach was invaded the Spartans mission was simple. Blue Team, comprised of the Master Chief and two other Spartans were to infiltrate a facility, and destroy the AI chip there. Red Team, all the other 27 Spartans were to stop the Covenant from destroying Reach's generators. The one's powering the orbital MAC guns. This went terribly wrong when the Covenant fleet was able to push through the UNSC fleet and land ground forces that would ultimately destroy Halo's generators. When this happened, contact was lost with Red team, one Spartan from Blue Team was already KIA, and one was critically wounded. MC returned to the Pillar of Autumn, WHICH was in orbit the WHOLE time with Cortana, planted Linda (the Wounded Spartan) in cryo-storage and they escaped Reach jumping to Halo.
Does everyone see what's wrong here? How Reach's invasion in the books was only...I don't know, 18 hours MAX. And trust me when I say I usually take the games story over the books, but this makes no sense. Bungie, Microsoft, and Xbox all approved of this books storyline!

Okay moving on...in The Flood I saw no contradictions...It was slow-paced, but it was great and more importantly, it was exactly how the game was. But nobody could screw up this one, it was simple, and that's why it was great.

Moving on..again. The First Strike had the BIGGEST Contradiction..EVER. Literally, it made no sense and here's how:

Master Chief is the only Spartan left after the Fall of Reach right?
WRONG.
After destroying Halo, saving some survivors, including one Sgt. Avery Johnson, and capturing a Covenant flagship, the beginning to this book was beautiful, so before I go any farther, I want to take some time with this. Master Chief is in his longsword, you know, saving people. He comes across three cryo-bays, and docks with a pelican saving four survivors, a pilot, an ODST, section three agent and Johnson. From there, they capture the Covenant Flagship and plan their next move. John, however wants to go on with his mission to capture the prophet, but gives his command authority to the Agent. Where they decide to go back to Reach!
The story evolves into something only writer's could come up with. Since Master Chief picked up the survivors, the story has been switching from the Red Team's drop on Reach to their "downfall." A handful of Spartans have made it to CASTLE Base, and escorted Halsey through a lot of Covenant. There are also three other Spartans and an Admiral hiding on Reach, where, the MC and his "crew" go. They meet up with each other, and eventually get to Halsey and the rest of the Spartans. Halsey has also acquired some crystal Forerunner artifact thing, which isn't allowing the Covenant to kill the humans. As they eventually escape, and go through all this anomaly time mumbo jumbo...way to much to fit in here. I will be writing reviews for these books later.

Anyway...as the story ends, Dr. Halsey escaped with Kelly, one Spartan, and we all know there are surviving Spartans trapped on that shield world. Anyway...the story ends with Cortana, Johnson, Master Chief....that should be all right? NO.
It also has Linda, Fred, and Will...THREE OTHER SPARTANS. With John, headed back to Earth , but...none of these Spartans are in Halo 2 or Halo 3....
Another contradiction.

I know I kinda went haywire with this, but for me...it's a big deal, and I wanted to make sure you guys knew the situation. And if you did read it all, thanks for making my time worth it! Let me know your opinions on this, especially if you read the books!

Remember people... is always watching.

It has now come to my attention that in many wikipedia links above that each Spartan was said to have partaken in the Battle of Earth. I have never known about this...and apparently, this is unfortunate as it this was a waste of time...now..there are more contradictions out there....what do you believe!?

I know what happened to Linda, Fred, and Will...

killed them.

No, but seriously, I don't know what happened. Chances are, these Spartans were there, in the continuity, but never mentioned because the game was about MC, not those other people.

Yeah, Fred, Linda, Will, and all the rest were on Reach. The Halo 1, 2, and 3 games were about MC running around blowing stuff up, shooting down aliens, and surviving the Flood.

And the book Reach does not contradict the game. The game contradicts the book, since the book came first. The book was here 4 or 5 years ago.

Halo 2 was also about the Battle of Earth, which if you read I think Fred's wiki he was involved with along with the others.

Then there's Ghosts of Onyx, the book in which Fred, Linda, and Will are in.

I don't know..it's weird.

See, that...I think that is total Bull..because if they thought it wasn't gonna be a success, these guys would have never wrote these books. Let alone the oter 5...and let alone creating the other 3 games

Well, I think they kept the whole face a secret so you can determine what he looks like, going off his personality.
