Background: Alex was born in 2148, on Earth. Alex comes from a strong military lineage, which is why it comes as no surprise that Alex joined the military. In 2157, both of Alex's parents were killed in the first contact war, leaving him to be orphaned, and raised by his uncle and aunt. Alex enrolled in the Naval academy in 2167 at the age of 19, using his parent's deaths as his motivation to succeed. Alex earned his commission, with honors, by the year 2171. Throughout his military career, Alex proved time and time again that he is capable of being a very original thinker by analyzing a situation, and finding a way to turn the situation around to his, or his allies, advantage. It was as a result of this that his progress through the ranks was as rapid as it was impressive. This did not go unnoticed by many, including Cerberus. During his time in the military, Alex progressed through the Interplanetary Combatives Training, and by 2176, he was awarded with his N7 Designation.
After his N7 designation, Alex was approached by Cerberus, officially recruited into their ranks, having never forgot the pain of losing his parents to an alien species. While Alex eagerly joined the ranks of Cerberus, he maintained his position in the System's Alliance Navy, keeping his affiliation with Cerberus a secret, on the basis that it allowed him greater operational flexibility. In 2179, Alex was sent on a joint training operation / cultural exchange with a Turian Intelligence Officer named "Navere Kurana". This marked the first occasion that Alex operated in the field with a non-human, as well as the first time that he had discovered that he had quite a bit in common with a member of an alien species, an experience which undermined the years of conditioned thinking that all alien races were inherently vile. The two built a mutual respect, and kept in touch after the conclusion of the training operation. In 2180, Alex was awarded the rank of Commander, by the Navy, for his exemplary performance in the line of duty during isolated engagements with Batarian slavers in the years prior. In 2182, Alex was dishonorably discharged from active service from the Systems Alliance on charges of "suspicious conduct unbecoming an officer". After his discharge, Alex started working full time with Cerberus, being granted the rank of Captain, and command of a Cerberus Dreadnaught by the name of the "SSV Damocles". Alex does not hold any animosity towards the Systems Alliance for his discharge.
