Jacob was following Black team the whole time, being silent and just listening in on the conversations. The UNSC was coming, and he was going to have to fight. If Nighthawk and Anaconda found him first, Jacob knew he wouldn't survive to prove himself loyal to the UNSC, to ONI. Jacob knew he had to pull something, a trick up his sleeve that no one expected, something that could change the game in his AND the UNSC's favor.
The problem was Black Team, their personal vendetta against Tye meant that's who they wanted to go after. If he was placed with any raggity tag group of Trust marines, he could have killed them in the crossfire and moved into the facility to get data and high-value equipment. The assault and his placement ruined his plans.
Jacob: Maybe pulling a double agent move wasn't the best idea.
Jacob sighed, he only hoped Black Team would mess up and let him pull away. Maybe that Hoffman guy would even ask for him for something. If he could just pull away for ten minutes, that's all the time he needed.
Meanwhile:
The Risk-Takers had reached the basement when they heard the announcement.
Liam: Alright Spartans, safeties off. Let's find this device and get moving.
Liam looked around, he had no idea what he was looking for, but he figured it's where all the eggheads were going.
Meanwhile:
Athios and his squad we're still at the AA gun, but just as he activated it an eerie voice announced the lockdown.
Athios watched the AA gun's color turn a sickly orange.
Athios: Oh fuck. Suicide Squad, we gotta move to that assault site!
Athios jumped down from the AA gun's tower and rolled forward. The rest of the squad had formed up.
Athios: One click Southwest, let's move!
They all started running.
Meanwhile:
Dangerus had since spoken to Furium and a complement of brutes to report to Xyrho. He then took his flagship and a few other brute carriers to the abandoned cities and outlying areas, he wanted to keep them busy while Furium and Xyrho were in New Havana. Dangerus only hoped he could buy them enough time.
Meanwhile:
Furium who had left the flagship with two dozen other brutes approached Xyrho's ship and immediately when to land in the hangar bay, they were contacted by the hangar bay officials and requested to land in a certain bay.
Across the planet...
Harrison watched on the holotable as the assault began. He had kept close eyes on Tye, Cameron, Fireteam Harmony, and a few other squadrons. But, when Nighthawk and Anaconda showed up, he made sure to keep very close eyes on them. Harrison didn't trust them very much, he didn't like them at all, but then again the opposite was true of Jacob.
And everyone knew what happened with that.
Harrison sighed, but his attention came back to him when one of his officers began speaking.
Officer: Admiral, we have a contingent of ships breaking off from the main Covenant force.
Harrison: Heading?
Officer: Twelve ships heading to abandoned areas, or evacuated cities. One corvette's path suggests its heading towards New Havana, sir.
Harrison scratched his chin.
Harrison: Send a warning to Commander Vernette about the Corvette. All points on high alert for Covenant strike teams. Secure the spaceport, I want everything on lockdown.
Another officer interrupted him.
Officer: Sir, word has it that we have lost control of New Havana.
Harrison stared back at the officer.
Harrison: What?
Officer: According to comms, a Trust AI has taken over the city. They control everything, sir. Auto-turrets, city defenses, roadblocks, AA guns.
Harrison leaned on the holotable.
Harrison: Warn all teams not involved on the assault, I want them out of the hot zone immediately.
Harrison paused.
Harrison: Keep an eye on the rest of the ships, if they change heading, warn me.
