He lived with his older brother Felix and his parents until age 15 when both parents were mysteriously killed by a group of bandits. The murder case was never closed and the bandits were never caught. During this time, Felix watched after Zephyr and they lived together for almost two years. During that time, Zephyr wound up in many street fights and learned to use a knife very well. Felix figured that their current situation was not getting any better and the brothers decided to leave the planet. Their ticket was joining the UNSC. (At age 17) Zephyr and (at age 21) Felix joined the UNSC. Personal Interest As a teenager, Zephyr loved playing competive and physical sports. Today, he still holds the enthusiasm to wrestle/fight and add a competitive edge to things he does. Unlike his brother, Zephyr never married. He often flirts or chases girls but his active military career has taken much of his time away from ever settling down with someone. Personality Zephyr is a natural leader. He often takes charge and evaluates the situation before acting. He can often be a sarcastic jokester and crack one liners. He is very loyal to humanity, family and to what he thinks is right. This need to act on his opinion makes act on rash decisions and sometimes stupid ones. He can think before he acts but often acts on impulse, especially when it comes to someone he has no patience for. It is important things are done in a righteous manner and often looks down upon corrupt doings, causing conflict between superiors. (This is in part to his parent’s death). Death of Felix In 2525, during the battle of Harvest, Zephyr lost his older brother Felix. Zephyr cursed all brutes after that and began to hate their entire race and culture. Felix left behind two children and a wife. Zephyr often makes contact with them when not in service as they are the closest people to family he has. This pivitol point in Zephyr's life made him realize how important it was to fight in the war. "Brother... you will not have died in vain. I will fight on for you, and for our family's sake... And for the sake of humanity." Military History Pre-Harvest History Only a year after joining the UNSC, in 2504, Zephyr was accepted into the Spartan1/ORION program. His was picked on his abilities and was chosen to receive augmentations. He received augmentations that enhanced numerous of physical and mental capabilities. He became faster, stronger, and more mentally aware and received a much quicker reaction time then he previously had. Zephyr became quicker and deadlier; a machine of war. Zephyr finished his training in 2506, during the last months of the ORION project’s activity. At the rank of 1st Lt, Zephyr continued his military career with his brother in covert operations in the Insurrectionist War. The brothers continued in ranks and the UNSC soon became a welcoming home and way of life for the Bovela brothers, taking their minds off of their former life on Earth. The two made it a point to stick together in missions and to always look out for eachother. The Battle of Harvest In 2525, Zephyr and Felix were sent to Harvest at the start of the Human-Covenant War. There, Zephyr gained much experience and an unnatural disliking towards brutes while fighting covenant. During the battle, Zephyr fought side by side with Felix until his death. Felix was torn apart by a group of brutes right in front of Zephyr. He proceeded to charge the group and kill every last one of the brutes and used his personal dagger to cut each of their heads off. During that particular skirmish, Zephyr earned the rank of Major and his nickname “The Bear”. Harvest was one of the most important battles he ever took part in. There he learned most of what he knew about the covenant and the alien races. He also lost his last and only blood relative battle. Zephyr visited Felix's family to tell the news. He vowed to protect them and to not let his brother to have died in vain. Zephyr tries his best to stay in contact with his sister-in-law, neice, and nephew. Enlistment of the ODST In 2528, Major Bovela enlisted in the ODST Corps. Quickly finding a liking to his fellow marines and fitting into the ODST, the majority of his fighting is spent with fellow ODST squad members performing near-suicidal missions. After establishing his intense fighting ability, keen deception, skillful leadership, and silver-tongued charisma he soon became the perfect squad leader. Using experience and good old instinct, he lead many men into battle to return victoriously. During a mission with an ODST squad, he had 3 of his fingers bitten off by a brute chieftain on his right hand. They were replaced with robotic ones. During the begining years of ODST training, he met his best friend and fellow squad mate: Zachary Woods. Advancement to Commander (Grade 2)/ Formation of HSK By 2533, Major Bovela had advanced to Commander (Grade2). His skill and ability advanced him to squad leader. The ODST team: Hit Squad Kilo was formed. It's main purpose was to be a tactical/combat group that defined the meaninf of "hell jumper". The group of marines quickly bonded and made their way through many near-death missions. The team consists of Zachary “Leapfrog” Woods (shotgunner), Clarke “Brooklyn” Miller (support), and Kathy “Katana” Summers (sniper). The Battle of Paradise Lost Sent on a mission in 2538 to Paradise Lost, he meets an elite by the name of Särion. In combat both Särion and Zephyr’s squad is completely wiped out. The two engage in CQC and are proven to be an equal match. Särion, being a believer of honor lays down his arms to his competitor. Commander Bovela, distant to such an ancient act respects it rightfully and admires it. The two work together to avoid a group of brutes ( a common hindrance) and find that they have much in common. Also, Zephyr begins to question the morality of his superiors as does Särion. This questioning leads Zephyr into many quarrels with his director Admiral Vernette and other members loyal to Vernette. Zephyr also gets into a few fights even physical ones with Captain Jacob Sharpmen. Near the end of the mission, the two men end on stable and neutral terms. Zephyr still carries a hate towards brutes and distrust towards Vernette. Whether contact between Sarion and Zephyr occurs is unknown.This battle opened up new paths of thought to him and made him think about the leadership of ONI. Interpersonal Relationships Family / Close Relationships Parents - Zephyr's parents were killed when he was 15 years old on Earth. An unknown group of bandits assaulted them during a robbery and murdered them. Felix Bovela - Felix is four years older than Zephyr. He had always been a voice of reason and stability for Zephyr. He married when he was 25 and had two kids, a boy and a girl. After his death in 2525, Felix's wife and kids are the only known family to Zephyr Julie Bovela- Felix's wife. Shes lives a simple lifestyle in an apartment complex on J-2 Alpha (5th floor, room 9A). She looks down upon military engagement. Zephyr and her son Mason are the only male figures in her life. Celia Bovela - Felix and Julie's daughter. Has a degree in medicine. Her work life consumes much of her time. Mason Bovela- Zephyr's nephew and Felix's son. He is 32 and served as a peace keeper on J-2 Alpha for a large portion of his life. He was tasked the investigation of the sinister Assassin Duo: Ace and Lars. He is physically fit and does well at his job. He also is a new recruit of ONI, despite his uncle's warnings. Zachary Woods - Zachary "Leapfrog" became one of Zephyr's closest friends during ODST training. The two became pretty much like brothers and fight in the same ODST team: HSK. Zephyr talks to him about everything and views him as his best friend. Friends Clarke Miller - Clark "Brooklyn" is a member of HSK and one of Zephyr's closest friends. Clarke grew up on Earth, similarly to Zephy,r in New York City and struggled through most of his childhood. Like Zephyr and his brother Felix, Clarke used the military as an escape from his life on earth. He uses sarcasm and humor to cope with damaged childhood. He has no personal relations outside Hit Squad Kilo. Kathy Summers - Kathy "Katana" is a member of HSK and one of Zephyr's closest friends. She is the best shot in all of HSK and can accurately hit small targets over great distances via her sniper rifle. She and Zachary have feelings for eachother. Särion - An elite met on Paradise Lost. The two saved eachother and escaped from a large group of brutes. They had secret communication between eachother and shared similar views on leadership. They both believe in righteousness and honor. Jacob Sharpmen - Formally met on Paradise Lost, the two ODST's started off with a bumpy relationship and even ended up fighting a few times. The two eventually came to terms with each other and stand on a friendly ground. Enemies Brutes in General - Zephyr holds a grudge to most any brute he meets and hates the entire race. Preston Vernette - Vernette and Zephyr have gotten into frequent quarrels with most of them being leadership and methods of acting. Zephyr is quick to fight and one arguement ended with the demotion of the Commander.
