Vhat' watched as his plan began to execute rather well, for the moment. He stuck to the shadows with his camo still on. In his right hand was a plasma rifle, the other his energy sword already activated. While most of the Humans were distracted, Vhat' snuck up behind a group of marines slashing through all of them in one horizontal motion.
His camo deactivated and three more marines turned to fire on Vhat' when one of the Elites from Vhat's first group headshot all of them with his needle rifle. Vhat' didn't bother looking at who it was. He merely re-activated his camo and moved in behind another group of marines. This one doing what Carmicle's group was doing, using the Warthog as cover and a barricade.
From the shadows, Vhat' aimed his plasma rifle and fired three burst shots at the other marines, keeping his camo up. The shadows would help keep him disguised. He also knew he had to keep moving so he could be much harder to kill. The rest of the Elites began to push forward, losing a few from Jacob and his resistance group. The other meleeing Elites also began to divide and conquer plan. Stick to multiple groups of two, and they can finish off this pocket of Humans and move onto the next one. Vhat' then moved in the shadows taking off more shots at anyone he had a clear line of sight with.
Meanwhile:
On the bridge of the Mind's Attrition, everyone watched Cochraine stand there, not as fully as normal, but she was standing. She straightened herself up, made eye contact with Reynolds, and saluted.
Cochraine: "Reporting for duty, Captain."
Reynolds was shocked as much as the next person. He nodded at Anderson, who began getting the CMO up there with a security detail. Reynolds approached Cochraine, still surprised at her being there. He got close enough to her and he used a lower volume voice.
Reynolds: "Lauren, what in God's name are you doing here?"
Cochraine: "I'm here to do my job, Sir."
Reynolds: "You need to be in bed, resting. Look at you, you can hardly walk. It's no condition for active duty."
Cochraine: "Please Captain, with all due respect, I need to be here. This is my place and I want to help."
Reynolds then raised his voice to normal.
Reynolds: "Commander, Anderson is doing a fine job in your absence. You have nothing to fear. I have a feeling that the ship will be here when the good Doctor here clears you for active duty."
Cochraine turned around to see the CMO and a security detail waiting to escort her back to MedBay.
CMO: "Commander Cochraine, we are here to peacefully escort you back to Medbay. I would like to ask that you please come with us, Ma'am."
Cochraine turned to look at Reynolds. She sent him an angry look hoping that he would get guilted by it, but Reynolds stood his ground. He truly believed in his decision, even if it was his closest companion.
Cochraine decided she made enough of a scene already to bother resisting, and Reynolds wouldn't have it either, so she allowed herself to be taken back to the Medbay. Reynolds stood there in front of the holotable. His arms were together behind his back, his stance tall and firm. His mind refused to make an exception in his ruling.
When the group left with Cochraine, the bridge doors shut. Reynolds stood there, not willing to move just yet. Not until Anderson broke the awkward silence that befell on the bridge.
Anderson: "Incoming message from the Admiral. It says for us to standby."
