AIE-486H Heavy Machine Gun
ONI Variant
The AIE-486H Heavy Machine Gun is a standard Gatling-style medium machine gun, used by the ONI for offensive and defensive purposes. It is also more powerful than the ONI's stationary turret, the M247 GP Machine Gun. For defensive purposes, it can be mounted on a tripod, but when used for an assault it can be irreversibly and quickly detached from its tripod. In its unmounted form, the weapon has a limited ammunition capacity of 400 rounds and takes about a second to "spin up" before reaching its highest rate of fire. This weapon is standard issue on all ONI ships as of 2555. ONI marines can be seen using this weapon when deployed in the field.
The weapon sports a very stylish semi-matte black finish the metal. The weapon itself proves highly effective against shields at any range. The gun slowly climbs during automatic fire like the M7 Caseless Sub Machine Gun, but its recoil is lessened by the gun's weight, which makes it hard to move around as well as decreasing the user's speed. Unlike most heavy machine guns, the AIE-486H does not overheat with continuous fire. The reason for this is due to the fact that a three barreled gun can disperse heat better.
UNSC Variant
Like all UNSC grade weapons, the AIE-486H Heavy Machine Gun was recycled for private use by ONI Peacekeepers. It maintains all of the UNSC era specifications but lacks the ONI specific upgrades.
Director Vernette's Personal Notes
The AIE-486H Heavy Machine Gun, or the chaingun as I like to call it, is a damn fine weapon for any heavy infantry to carry. I have seen Spartans move around and fire these things off on a few occasions, ODSTs on the rare occasion moving it, but never moving and firing. I have no clue how an Elite would fare with this weapon, but I surmise they might be able to match a Spartan in terms of how they use it. Delta loves this weapon. He said it sort of reminds him of the Covenant Plasma Turret, but a lot more enjoyable to kill with. I guess he enjoys watching his victims get ripped apart by the bullets.
