He jumped into his Vulture and flew down to the Texas base camp. He stopped about 2 miles out. He opened a comm to Delta. Vernette: Hey Delta...you there? Delta looked up and answered his comm. Before he spoke, he looked around and saw that Max had wandered off. Delta: Yeah...I am here. Vernette: Delta...grab a vehicle and drive north west for about 2 miles. You will find me there. I need to talk to you...alone. Delta shrugged and closed the comm. he grabbed a Warthog and drove out to Vernette's position. Once there, Vernette opened the rear hatch and Delta walked in. Delta: You wanted to see me? Vernette: Delta...Do you remember Courtney? Delta: Yeah...why? Vernette: Well...apparently...Max, the girl that is stationed at the Texas barracks, where you are right now, is my daughter. Delta: Yeah...surprise... Vernette looked at Delta. Vernette: Surprise? If ONI, Beurscott, or anyone else figures out that Max is my daughter this could put her in a lot of danger. Delta: Well, that's true. Vernette: Damn right it is! You have always kept me safe...but for now...I want you to keep Max safe. Delta: So...protect Max...sounds simple enough. Vernette turned when the console beeped. He looked at the console and saw that information had been found on Fuentes. Vernette: We found a match! However, information on him is very limited. Looks like we will have to do this the old fashioned way. Delta: Old fashioned way? Harold walked around he then bumped into something...a grunt, he and the grunt stood, the grunt looked up and shivered, Harold looked down and shivered, none of them raised their guns......they were frozen, the grunt soiled himself, as did HArold. the grunt whimpered Harold blinked his eyes, and then rose his smg at the grunt's face. The grunt didn't run away. Harold's trigger finger twitched, but then he dropped the smg, letting out a gasp of air. Harold: I can't do it, go ahead, tell your little alien friends, a marine like me doesn't deserve to live, I'm just a failure. the grunt turned it's head. Jib Jab: Other grunts and brutes say I'm a failure, but, I just keep on going, knowing one day...things will be better... in the distance, he heard Brutes cal the Grunts's name Jib Jab! ger over here! you better have the kindle! I uploaded all the transponder information for this base into that headset. He stopped and peeked around the corner. he saw several ODST's guarding the entrance to the barracks. Vernette: Damn... Vernette picked up his comm. Vernette: Leon...we have 6 ODST's guarding the Barracks entrance. We need to move them out of the way. I will draw them over here. Get in there and find Sergeant Forkes. Vernette took aim with the assault rifle and began to fire. He hit one of the ODST's. He ducked behind a warthog. He could hear the ODST's kicking the door down. He looked and saw several Mongooses lined up, a couple hogs, and a bunch of fuel. Vernette: So...I am stuck in a building with a bunch of explosives...Should I or shouldn't I blow this building back to God... Vernette could hear the ODST's ODST: ...Shoot to kill... Vernette: looks like I am going to blow this place sky high. Vernette looked around and found a toolbox. He grabbed a screw driver and began to puncture the fuel tanks on all the vehicles with exception to one hog. Fuel began to leak everywhere. He grabbed a blowtorch from the workbench and jumped into the hog. He could hear the door being kicked down. ODST: Go, go, find him, kill him! Vernette: Lets hope this works... Vernette turned the engine, put the hog in reverse and backed up through the wall of the depot. Once he was through, he sparked the blowtorch and threw it inside the building. he then began to reverse. in a matter of moments the building exploded into a fiery inferno. Besides...they needed to be out of the way if we are going to halt this ship. Vernette: Right...we need to sabotage the ship. Delta: I had already gotten started on shutting down the engines. Vernette: Really? Delta: Yeah...you see...this terminal right next to us...it controls the thrust initiation for the engines. Delta pressed a button on the keyboard and a tray on the body of the computer termional ejected to show the data control crystals. Delta pulled out his spiker and blasted the crystals. They shattered and the computer shiut down. The sound of the engine began to lower as it powered down. Fuentes took cover behind his chair as the guns fired on his bridge. Fuentes called out to Vernette and Delta. Fuentes: I surrender...don't shoot! Don't shoot!
